Thailand won't feel downhearted by the downgrade

28-7-2558-10-53-43-wpcf_728x407.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The Thai government won't feel downhearted for being kept among countries in the lowest ranking for combating human trafficking but will determine to collaborate with all countries to eliminate it, government deputy spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said today.

“We won’t feel downhearted or worry about the ranking but will continue with the effort to fight the problem with international communities,” he said.

He recalled the past several months of the government’s concerted effort to eliminate human trafficking seriously with the arrest and prosecution of over a hundred human traffickers in the court and the confiscation of their assets.

This strong band tough actions would not be interrupted but continued, he said.

The spokesman came as last night the US Embassy in Bangkok issued a separate announcement recognising steps taken between April and July by the Thai government but calling for more effort.

“We continue to urge Thai government officials to take bold steps to combat trafficking throughout the ongoing 2016 reporting period and beyond,” said the statement, referring to next TIP report next year.

The US embassy noted that this year’s report failed to take note of the main achievements by Thailand, which took place after the March 31 deadline for submitting material.

“We welcome additional efforts by the Thai government since March 31 to fight trafficking in persons, including efforts to create special units within criminal courts to adjudicate trafficking cases and the arrests of dozens possibly involved in human trafficking crimes and other abuses against migrants in southern Thailand.”

The embassy said actions taken after March 31 will be covered in next year’s report.

There are “many committed individuals within the Thai government, law enforcement, and civil society communities who are working hard to reduce and eliminate human trafficking, the statement said.

It went on saying that despite cooler diplomatic relations because of the military coup, “Over the next year, we anticipate high-level engagement between U.S. and Thai officials both in Thailand and in international fora on this important issue.”

Then why are some junta people complaining about it not being fair?

Suck it up and deal with it, fix shit before it becomes a bigger issue, don't start fixing shit after you've had your knuckles rapped, put measures in place to stop them being rapped in the first place.

Your Air industry is next for a swift boot to th chuckies!!

Thai Govt: US Should Clarify Annual Trafficking Rankings
By Khaosod English

BANGKOK — A Thai government spokesperson said the United States is obligated to explain why Thailand was not upgraded in its annual assessment of human trafficking around the globe.

In the 2015 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report released last night, the US State Department retained Thailand’s"Tier 3" status, citing a the government’s failure to "fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking."

Thailand was first downgraded to Tier 3 - the lowest rank possible - last year.

Speaking to reporters this morning, Thai government spokesperson Maj.Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd said he disagreed with the ranking.

"Thailand's clear stance is to prevent anyone from using Thailand as a transit country or [location] of human trafficking networks, and punish any wrongdoer," Maj.Gen. Sansern told reporters.

"As for the report of the human rights situation that was published by the US Department of State, it is the duty and responsibility of the report publishers to explain clearly to the world community about the source of the data they collected, and what standards they used to make their analysis, in order to make that report truly credible and accepted."

He added, "They have to confirm that this is an action based on facts without any hidden agenda."

The 2015 TIP Report described Thailand as a source, destination, and transit country for victims of human trafficking, both foreigners and Thais, who are often defrauded by brokers into working in the sex trade or fishing industry.

The report also faulted Thai authorities for discouraging media coverage of human trafficking, creating an environment where victims are afraid to report crimes, and failing to root out corruption among officials.

In the 2015 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report released last night, the US State Department retained Thailands"Tier 3" status, citing a the governments failure to "fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking."

The key phrase is "retained Thailand's tier 3 status". What that means is, the Junta did not do enough to change the status quo, the standard set by the "won every election for the last 20 years" governments.

It's not a downgrade when Thailand has been at the lowest level (Tier 3). Thailand had a chance to improve its rating but somehow dropped the ball. What is regrettable is that it had a chance to improve but did not take the opportunity to clean up its act. Passing the buck will not work. Blaming the messenger (those reporters) for brining attention the problem - won't either. Can't fool everyone with fancy footwork.

Hate to be the one to break the news to you but in the 2013 TIP report (pre-junta), Thailand was Tier 2. So Tier 2 would be the 'status quo' under the Ramrod711 Totally Made-up Criteria for Judging Governmental Performance™. Thailand has only been Tier 3 for the previous two years.

PM: TIP report only reflects early stage of human trafficking eradication efforts

BANGKOK, 28 July 2015 (NNT)-Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha is urging the Thai public not to be overly concerned with the US decision to keep Thailand on Tier 3 in its human trafficking report.

The Prime Minister said Thailand is not going to respond to the report, but will continue with its efforts to solve the problem. He asked everyone to remain calm as Thailand is already doing everything in its capacity to eradicate human trafficking.

The U.S. Embassy meanwhile says it is well aware of the efforts the Thai government has made; however, Thailand remains on Tier 3 because the US assessment was conducted during the first stage of human trafficking eradication in Thailand. And it reflects only the situation then.

The American embassy said it hoped the situation would continue to improve. General Prayut further added that the eradication efforts were not only to prevent anyone from falling victim to human traffickers; but also to preserve natural resources and raise the standards of the Thai fisheries industry.

Wont feel downhearted.. That's just a show of their arrogance. And unwilling to take the criticism they deserve.

Spotted today on a main road in Phuket Town - huge very expensive looking sign professionally printed, emblazoned upon which read 'US EU Please respect our country and do not get involved in Thailand's Politics' in perfect English. No idea who it was aimed at. When I burst out laughing my Thai driver asked 'Wa' funny?' biggrin.png

"...but will continue with the effort to fight the problem with international communities,” he said..."

You better or you guarantee yourself a Tier 3 rating next year.

Yes. The words 'continue with' contain the lie by the technique of planting unconscious suggestion.

Thailand was relegated to tier 3 last year. They had a year to react, but only started doing anything in March (after the deadline for consideration) because they were embarrassed by undeniable foreign press reports, having tried to bully Thai journalists into not investigating.

It's pretty hard to feel any sympathy for these clowns, it really is.

What they don't realise is that the foreign press is on to them, and will continue publishing strategically-timed releases in order to embarrass and humiliate Thailand andd its leaders because the foreign press doesn't like them.

In these circumstances, Prayuth and his equally treasonous mates are a liability to all Thais. I believe he will be under a bus by Xmas.

As for Sansern and his mendacious acolytes, anyone who deliberately says something, knowing it to be deceitful and/or untrue, is absolutely the lowest dog in the pack. Sansern isn't even very good at it, his lies and deceits are too transparent, too amateurish. Buty then he is Thai, so perhaps we shouldn't expect too much.

I do not agree with human trafficking, and I can agree theses things must take time to plan and eliminate them at a grass roots level so they are not disguised in some other way as to just reappear.

Does the U.S. Government have a human trafficking issue in America? People crossing borders? Cheap labour?
