Help - Divorcing in UK - Judge not satisfied with my petition

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My ex wife and I have started divorce proceedings in the UK. We got married at an amphur in Thailand.

We are trying to do this ourselves without getting solicitors involved.

However when I applied for a decree nisi I got a letter back with 1 sentence on it saying that the judge isn't satisfied that I am entitled to the decree because...

"The translation must be certified by notary public or a statement of truth"

"The petitioner should deal with the above matters and renew the request for directions for trial"

I am assuming this relates to the English translation of the marriage certificate?

The translation was originally signed in Thailand when we applied for her spouse visa.

I am wondering if anyone else has come across this before and can give me some advice?

How do I go about getting this certified by notary public in the UK when I can't find any professional Thai translators?

Also do you think I have to start the whole application again or just send a certified translation? I don't want to pay more court fees if I don't have to.

Do you think it's time to get solicitors involved?

Thanks!!!!!

It might be just as cheap for both of you to fly back to Thailand and do it by the time you are finished. It's £410 for the Court fees alone.

You can find another wife at the same time.
