PATTAYA: -- An alleged key operative of Ufun pyramid scheme has been arrested in Pattaya on charges of public fraud and disseminating of false information about Ufun.

The suspect was identified as Mr Parkpoom Sookkorn , a former emcee of a cable TV station in Pattaya.

Pol Lt-Gen Suveera Songmetta, assistant police chief overseeing the Ufun case, described Mr Parkpoom as a second-tier operative of Ufun who was partially responsible for boosting the operations of the company by acting as an expert in making presentations about Ufun to convince people to invest in the company.

Mr Parkpoom also appeared on the cable TV in Pattaya to convince his audience that Ufun’s operations are legal, said the assistant police chief, adding that the former TV emcee had managed a network of about 2,000 members and had received or transferred money worth about 11 million baht through his bank accounts.

But Parkpoom, however, defended that he only invested 157,000 baht in Ufun through the persuasion of his relatives. He admitted that he persuaded about 30 friends to invest in Ufun.

He also claimed that the 2,000 members invested in the company through persuasions from his friends.

So far, 44 suspects allegedly involved in the pyramid scheme have been arrested. Another 116 are still on the run, including 20 who have escaped overseas.

20 escaped overseas! the immigration department needs adjustment? Plenty of brown envelopes.

Note to self, do not go to Pattaya, after I commit a crime, the BIB are good there, my arse.

Bye the bye, I will be in Patts next week, if you fancy a beer, if not look out for me in the news ;-)

Why is there so little information on the whereabouts of the money and assets that have been retrieved and seized so far and how to put in a claim if you have invested and lost money?
