Bomb hoax at Hat Yai airport triggers maximum security

Hat Yai airport placed on maximum security MB after a bomb hoax

Security at Hat Yai international airport in Songkhla province is placed at maximum security today after a bomb threat was found to be a hoax.

According to Klong Hoi Kong station police of Hat Yai district, an airport staff alerted the police of a bomb threat by an anonymous caller last night saying a bomb was placed at the airport and it was timed to go off at 8 pm.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel from the military and the police arrived to comb the airport while security officials stepped up checks on all passing vehicles and evacuating passengers to safe areas to facilitate the searching and clearing operations.

However after over an hour of search, nothing unusual was found.

Airport authorities later called off the alert.

However security at the airport remained at maximum level.

Airport authorities today filed complaint about the bomb hoax and asked the police to hunt down the bomb hoaxer who made the fake call.

I noted a long queue of traffic waiting to get through the security check at Hat Yai Airport this lunchtime as I came out, and that was with three screening lanes open.

So plan a little extra time for your journey if you're flying from Hat Yai for the next few days.
