Public transportation operators recruited to help officials track human trafficking ring

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 2 August 2015 (NNT) – The Office of Social Development and Human Security in Nakhon Si Thammarat has recruited public transportation operators to fight human trafficking by asking them to inform officials of suspected activities in the province.

Deputy provincial governor Siripat Pattakul yesterday chaired the opening ceremony of the voluntary campaign, which attracted 120 public transportation operators in the area.

According to the Deputy Governor, human trafficking has evolved over the years. Traffickers now deploy various techniques tricking and forcing victims into prostitution and begging business. He said all sides’ cooperation are needed to fight human trafficking.

Meanwhile, Ms. Paveena Hongsakul, president of the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Children and Women stated during her attendance at the event that efforts continued to help 39 rescued Thai fishermen who had been tricked to work illegally in Indonesian waters, and to prosecute their former employers. These workers had been detained by the Indonesian authorities for more than 6 months without any assistance from their employers.

She cited the workers as saying their employers convinced them to use forged document, leading to their arrests.

"These workers had been detained by the Indonesian authorities for more than 6 months without any assistance from their employers."

So Thai Embassy in Indonesia didnt go to help these people like they did with the gun-smuggling idiot in Japan ... I thought the Thai Ministry claimed they would help any thai that got detained in a foreign country ... but these fishermen are poor of course so who really care ... crying.gif

They only react according to US keeping them on Tier 3 where they belong - its all show and no substance blink.png Business as usual

I'd prefer that the operators pay more attention to the road traffic than looking for possible human trafficking activities.

Since Thai people would never be involved in such activities, I expect all reported suspects will be non-appearingThais. Maybe it's time for the police to sweep all foreigners in the country as potential traffickers.
