Again sorry to be pest. Here is the situation. Qualify for the non imm o. As was not able to prove funds came from abroad, realized I had to exit los to say Vientiane for my non imm o. Actually flying udon today. Anyway I just now find a transfer from au bank to my bkk bank. It is 710k baht. There have been other deposits but these have been cash from AU and deposited after return. Account has never been under I million. I could do an affidavit of income from au consulate. I live bkk. Any advice to steer me once and for all much appreciated.

All you will need in Vientiane is your bank book showing at least 800k baht.

You will not need to show the funds came from abroad when you apply for the extension of stay.

You could do a statutory declaration to prove your income at the embassy in Bangkok.

Is it actually necessary to prove that the 800k came from abroad to qualify for a retirement visa? The lady at BKK head office, who produces the letters for applicants, stated that this was never asked for in her years of doing this. Is this just a "lost in translation" thing?

It is my understanding that CONVERSIONS (of 30 day stamps or tourist visas) to 90 day O visas done IN THAILAND (as first step with second step being the retirement extension) actually do require proof funds came from abroad (if using a bank method rather than income method).

The proof of the funds coming from a abroad is need to a apply for a non immigrant visa (non-o class) based upon qualifying for an extension of stay based upon retirement.

It is not required to apply for the extension of stay. There is no retirement visa done at immigration.

Okay, I mis-spoke. Thanks for clearing that up Joe. So after 5 years of working and paying taxes here, my locally accrued savings do not qualify me for a non-imm retirement?

If you have proof you earned the funds here you would not need proof the funds came from abroad,

The reason they want the proof it cam from abroad is because there is no seasoning requirement (60 days for the extension) to apply for the non immigrant visa. It is to prevent a person from borrowing it from somebody here.

A single entry non O visa based on being over 50 is easily obtained from a nearby Thai embassy/consulate. You will need to will need to demonstrate 800,000 Bht in a Thai bank or a letter from your Embassy attesting to an income of 65,000 Bht/month

The visa will give a 90 day entry. During the last 30 days apply for an extension of stay, based on retirment, at an immigration office

Thanks guys for the helpful answers. The point about locally earned money has bugged me for a while. So, special thanks to ubonjoe for clearing that one up!
