Can someone tell me if there is a special word for these stoves, or are they just cal TAO? They are called shichirin (七輪) in Japan.

I understand that TAO generally means ovens or stoves for cooking.

Thank you for your help.

Actually, I've not seen anything here that looks exactly like what you have pictured but if it is the grill that uses wood and/or charcoal the Thai equivalent is probably (เตาถ่าน) TAO THAN.

Dear Pla shado,

Thanks for your information. The photo I attached was a Japanese one.

I think the Thai ones look like this. Would these also be TAO THAN?

You wouldn't happen to have a photo of a Thai one, would you? I don't think I can use this photo.

Thanks for your help.

Yes, those are tao than. Folks grill on them, boil soup, steam khao niao, make khao tok, deep fry and more. I'll take a look and see if I can find some photos.

Dear MaeJoMTB,

Thank you for that information. There are lots on there, but I am not sure of the copyrights relating to me using them.

In any case, Pla shado just sent me some good photos.

Dear Pla shado,

Thank you for that information and the photos.
