Boliden Batteries: 087-908-4528

Sorry about the spelling I have noted the correct information.

I just called them and they have one available for 4.700 Baht

Would you recon Boliden are among the best that is available or do you have a preference for any another brand ?.

I know its bad attitude to write about typos.

But this extra "i" really makes the difference.

@Isan Farang

Are they that special?

Better than 3K e.g.?

My knowledge on this subject is limited, when the battery on my SUV gets to near death I just inform the Mitsu garage to fit a new one, I never specify any particular brand.

The battery on my 3 series BMW is giving issues so I wish to fit a new one. After obtaining the replacement cost from BMW there is no way I will part with the required coin. So the plan is to purchase a non OEM battery and fit it myself, the boss at the Mitsu garage told me Boliden appears a decent deal so I will get them to order for me from Bangkok. If someone informs me there is something superior I would be interested to know before I order the Boliden.

I learned about and bought the Boliden battery after reading past discussions about this subject on this forum. Being TIT, I believe the Boliden is the best we can get at the moment and I would most definitely have one installed in my BMW!

I am not sure what model your BMW is but if it is a late model car you may not have much joy if you change the battery yourself. The computer will need resetting (yes, really).

If the garage is up to scratch they can keep the connections live with another battery and clips while putting the new battery in so you can change without having to re-set the computer,

If you drive a newer BMW model you should register the new battery with the IBS (Intelligent Battery System). If you don`t register the new battery it may shortens the life of the battery or can trigger electrical problems which may affect Sat Nav, Central Lock, Cabin Lights etc.

It is especially important to register the new battery if you change to a higher capacity, as otherwise IBS never loads the new battery to 100%.

It won't make any difference if you do it that way. The computer has registered that the old battery is failing. The new battery will also fail after a short time.

GS batteries have done me proud, 12 years in Ford Ranger and another is coming up 6 in my Pajero Sport, I top up water every week and keep the top clean, excellent service.

Today was lucky as I managed to get the required Boliden battery off the shelf for my car in Ubon 4.900 Baht. Just completed the fitting and all is good.

The OEM battery almost made 5 years.

When I bring my car to BMW Ubon next month for its last free service, I will get them to register and code the new battery and that should take care of the battery issues for a few years I hope.

My Pajero OEM battery also died in May and it was exactly 5 years old, not sure what brand the new battery was but it was 3.500 Baht

Very good, but every application is different....

Why? they start the car and are recharged by the car, all same same in my experience, some do not maintain correctly,, simple really. and some batteries are just rubbish..

The GS battery on my Strada died today. 3-4 yrs old. Left for long periods of 1 to 2 weeks or more without use. What's the point of spending extra on the Boliden? Always kept water topped up.

My reasons are

1. The OEM Battery costs 19.500 Baht + 1.500 Baht fitting charge. The Boliden cost me 4.900 Baht and I fitted the battery myself

2. Boliden are maintenance free and perfect for my car as the battery is in the boot and not so accessible.

3. They come with an 18 month guarantee

Everyone who tinkers with their vehicles will have there own preference what brand names and parts they like to use.

@21,000 baht for your OEM battery, I don't blame you. For regular cars / pickups the Boliden is at a premium price, & I doubt much better than the GS and other brands.

That price here in Thailand is just a complete rip off, 1500 fitting?????? a complete service costs me less than that!!!!!!

He has a BMW ..... you should see some of the prices they charge there!! w00t.gif

...and as TA says, 'different applications'. With some (all?) BMW models, the battery is in the trunk/boot? and under the spare tire! No one would want to have to periodically check their battery in this situation.

OP made the best choice under his circumstances.

I know it's a bit late for the OP but if anyone is interested the original battery on my Fortuner died after 2 years, have now had fitted a GS Super Diamond maintenance free, been fine for over 4 years. It even has a very pretty light thingy telling you if it's fully charged Blue or it is going down hill Red.

Don't know what the cost is now but the GS was then 3,500bt - 500bt off for the old battery.
