i have successfully applied the o visa(marriage based) and the officer asked me why dont apply the oa visa during my application. Finally ,she herself said your bank (my)saving is not up to 80k. I wonder if i put too much money to my bank ,will they request me to apply oa visa. Is it possible?

They will usually push you towards the Retirement Extension option as it means less work for them.

The cannot push a O-A Visa on you as that can only be got in your own country.

? I am confused by this post.

I assume you are in Thailand?

You can not apply for a visa here and so also not a "oa".

I assume you applied for a one year extension based on marriage?

And then the officer suggests that you apply for an extension based on retirement (which is easier to handle).

80k? You probably mean 800k in the bank account?

Otherwise 65k / month as income/pension or a combination of income per month*12 + bank account >= 800k.

If you don't have that, then a retirement extension is not possible.

If you have it, then do it!

(consider the combination method!)

Less paperwork and issued on site without delay.

They can not force you if you don't want.

whistling.gif.You are talking about extensions not visas.

A visa is something you get outside Thailand.

An extension, such as one based on marriage to a Thai, is something you get at your local immigration in Thailand.

I assume that is what you have is an extension based on marriage to a Thai, and you are doing 90 day reports for that extension.

There are advantages to each one, and some disadvantages also.

A marriage extension only requires you to have 400K Thai Baht in a Thai Bank account OR a monthly income of at least 40K Thai Baht. You can also work with a work permit on a marriage extension.

The disadvantage of a marriage extension is that if your wife dies, or you are divorced, you extension ends since it was based on your marriage to a Thai.

A retirement extension requires you to have 800K in a Thai bank account in your name OR a monthly income of 65K each month OR the combo (combination option) of Thai Bank account and income that totals 800K Thai Baht ANNUALLY.

The disadvantages on a retirement extension are that you can not work on a retirement extension, and that it costs more to get originally.

The advantage to a retirement extension, if you can afford it, is that it does not depend on you staying or being married to a Thai, as a marriage extension does.

Also a retirement extension requires less work and fewer documents to renew annually.

Basically if you qualify for both of them, it is up to you and your situation which one you choose.

The immigration may want you to go the retirement option as it is less work for them.....but they can not force you to do that.

There is no combo option for a marriage extension, that only applies to the retirement extension.

i am already in thailand since nov last year and next year i need to renew my extension. i dont want to put more than 40k in my bank. Thanks.

I assume you meant to write 400k baht in the bank, It is that or 40k baht income to apply for an extension based upon marriage.

yes,it should be 400k not 40k.

So then all clear.

Go the marriage route.

They can't force you to the retirement route.

Take it as a well meant hint.

For the extension of stay (not a visa) based on marriage you need 400 K in the bank OR proof of income of at least 40K a month,
