Unless they want the barrel threaded for a silencer - the max list price is $499 (499*35=17,465 baht) and as low as $425 (425*35= 14,875 baht).

150,000 @ Bt18,000 = Bt2.7bn.

And don't forget the 15% "commission".

What could go wrong with this plan?

Did someone say "fire engine"?

So they're getting these for just over $500??? Seems really low.

Were did you get those prices? The model chosen is about $550-600.

Also it doesn't state how many magazines, holster etc that comes with. I imagine it's a complete kit.

These are to used as service weapons, personally I'm with everyone that states these should be administered by the RTP. It's ridiculous for an armed police force to expect officers to buy their own service pistols. The army certainly don't so why expect the police to!

The price list quotes prices for 1 piece ( £466) they asked for a quote for 150000 pistols and the price is lower, that's normal. What would worry me is the policeman saying normal price is 70000 baht (about £1400) which is nearly 3 times the list price.

Would they, like normal conscientious/informed purchasers, require a sample shipment of, say, 100, to be inspected/tested/verified

before placing the major order ? Have they vetted the maker ? Or, and I am afraid it is, just another Golf ball detector or Drunk-o- meter- story to tell one's grandchildren ?

Fred. This hand gun is the number one police force weapon in the USA it was designed as a police carry weapon. It's not a prototype or a small company!

OK gunny, so, in your opinion there should not not be a State official procurement procedure for these handguns, and it's logical the coppers decide for themselves? Yeah, right! When that would really be so, it would be some shiny pistol in .45ACP, THE male attribute (//penis extension) in Thailand!

A specialist like you for sure knows many (most?) Sig Sauer pistols are manufactured in the USA (not in Switserland), and, also, that many other, 'excellent' pistols are 'designed as a police carry weapon', with safety as the 2nd top item (just behind reliability), and produced by well-established companies like specialists Glock and Heckler & Koch, or Smith & Wesson MP, Springfield, CZ, and many others (it's a core market).

It will also not have escaped to you that most first world democratic countries (not 'gun country' US of A!) attempt to reduce to a minimum the number of LEOs on duty(!) carrying a gun, and limit the carry weapons to Double Action Only ones (above a decocker safety), for evident safety reasons, but that here in Thailand it looks like going in the exact opposite direction...

To be effective to get the target -

you need - must have an automatic gun,

the more pullets the magacine can keep,

the better it is !!

When guys having your expertise in law enforcement start expressing their opinion, it's time for me to leave...

He was quoting Thai prices.. Same as prestige and supercars are three times the price here.. Taxation!

A nice retirement golden handshake from Sig S for the police chief. as for them selling them on its easy .

Get an independent ballistics firm to record the unique markings each gun makes when fired then if that gun is used in a crime the officer it was sold to initially would be held responsible unless he sold the gun with written official permission.

As for the other guns that the officers (allegedly) have they would not get the new gun until they returned the old one and if not ,,,,"Where is your weapon me old son"? no reasonable explanation "Bangkok Hilton" would have a vacancy i'm sure.

The prices are online and the Sig Sauer 320 is between 425 and 499 US$

Using a sales price of $450 with a typical low gross profit margin for firearms of 15% then the direct cost from the manufacturer is about $380 before the volume discount of, say at minimum, an additional 15%. So that gives us a cost of about $323. Chaiyo!

What a waste of money and useless ideal. Any so-called unique markings can be changed, with less than 5 minutes polishing of the barrel bore, firing pin and extractor.

I fail to see the relevance of the number of young hens that can by kept in a printed periodical to this debate?
