Songchai Nienhom, 38, Nampon Hohhow, 34, and Ms Wijitra Chaweein, 34, have been all charged with illegal possession of an explosive war device.

PHUKET: -- Two men and a woman have been charged with possession of a weapon of war after police found a live M67 grenade in their car during a routine stop and search at a police checkpoint early this morning (August 14).

Min of Interior to tackle drug abuse in schools

BANGKOK, 14 August 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Interior has instructed related agencies to focus their anti-drug campaign on youths.


Deputy Permanent Secretary for Interior Apinan Suetanuwong disclosed that all provincial narcotics control centers have been instructed to work with local security and education agencies to compile a list of at-risk schools across the country. The campaign will be aimed at students involved in drug trafficking and drug abuse.

The Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONBC) has mapped out measures and guidelines for different agencies to deal with both well-behaved and at-risk students.

The Basic Education Commission will undertake the task of organizing provincial-level youth camps to educate students on how to safeguard themselves against narcotics. As for those already addicted to drugs, the commission and health agencies will jointly launch rehabilitation services in schools. Meanwhile, the Royal Thai Police will be in charge of legal enforcement.

7 govt agencies to combine forces to solve illegal fishing

BANGKOK, 14 August 2015 (NNT) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives and seven state agencies have agreed to mobilize their efforts to address illegal fishing by signing a cooperative deal facilitating information exchange.


The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is prepared to sign an agreement with the Marine Department, the Royal Thai Navy, the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Provincial Administration, the Department of Employment, the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare and the Department of Fisheries.

Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Petipong Pungbun Na Ayudhya will chair the agreement-signing ceremony set for August 17 at the Centara Grand Plaza Ladphrao, Bangkok.

Under the agreement, the seven agencies will be able to access the central database of fishing boats and labor via the system called Fishing Info, which records activities of operators registering with Port In – Port Out Monitoring Centers in all seafront provinces.

Related agencies believe that the deal will enable them to cope with illegal fishing in a more systematic manner.

Yuan depreciation may affect Thai tourism
