Thailand welcomes Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister

BANGKOK, 14 August 2015 (NNT) – The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received the Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam, who is on an official visit to the Kingdom to strengthen the two countries’ strategic partnership.

Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam on Thursday paid a courtesy call on Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn. The two officials discussed bilateral relations under the existing strategic partnership framework, which is aimed at promoting cooperation in all dimensions in a continuous manner.

Among areas of cooperation brought up during the discussion were labor management, eradication of illegal fishing, introduction of a cross-border bus route linking Thailand, Laos and Vietnam, and development of marine transport between Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The two sides also touched on the plan to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 2016.

Vietnam, meanwhile, is preparing to send delegates to participate in a program to solidify the network of Thai and Vietnamese civil servants which is set to be hosted by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs in early September this year.

It must have been a relief for Gen Tanasak to meet with Communist Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Vu Hong Nam.

For once Gen Tanasak doesn't have to explain the Junta's roadmap to democracy.
