PHUKET: -- The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is continuing its investigation into financial aspects of the Provincial Hospital, despite the recent death of the probe’s primary target: Phuket’s highest elected official, Paiboon Upatising.

“The investigation is still going on,” Preechanan Poomlek, chief of the Phuket NACC office told The Phuket News today.

“Of course no charges were placed against Mr Paiboon as the investigation is still ongoing and of course there will not be since he has died.

“But we are still investigating the PPAO and its executive council, as well as any other officers involved.”

“I repeat that no one has been charged yet, we are still investigating.”

Mr Preechanan said he had no expected date of completion for the investigation.

“There are many cases that we have to take of,” he said, without elaborating on exactly which other corruption investigations he was currently involved with.

Mr Paiboon died on August 2 after years of fighting cancer former. At the time of his death Mr Paiboon was president of the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation (PPAO or OrBorJor), which operates the Provincial Hospital in Rassada.

By order of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha under Section 44 of the interim constitution, Mr Paiboon was suspended from office on June 25 pending an investigation by the NACC into the Provincial Hospital, at the request of the Office of the Auditor General.

Mr Paiboon was honoured with a state funeral on Monday.

And yet the other day there was a report that hundreds of people came to his house to pay their respects.

That is how you recognize a corrupt from a honest official in Thailand, since the honest one doesn't have parasites friends.

You do not have to look very far to find the most blatant corruption on Phuket. This isn't a rotten apple in the barrel.....the whole barrel is rotten. Pity.

I wonder what this guy did, or didn't do, to hack off the NACC?

The more corrupt, the more show up.

...the death of the probe's primary target Paiboon Upatising.

That's the kind of "inactive post" I have sympathy for when it comes to untouchable corrupt officials.

If they want to know the other culptries of the corruption,

they just had to take the ID cards from the funeral !!

I really don't see why the NACC will not be laying any charges against Paiboon. Seize his assets before the will is probated, and then convict him posthumously. Anything is possible in Thailand - surely if you can impeach someone who is no longer in office, you can convict someone who is no longer living.

And a "state funeral?"------- was he Royalty?

Burned with him, too bad !!

The secret buried with him!

He was popular with the people, his achievements included the introduction of the pink baht buses running through Phuket City. Many teachers from our school went to is house paying their respects, I'd hardly call them parasites.
