Bangkok "Outdoors"....where to live?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm thinking of moving to the Bangkok area and looking for info on places to live / work where I can exercise outside regularly.

I've been to the city many times but never with the thought of living there. I'd be on a public teachers salary so affordable apartment and schools to find a job would also be needed. Ideally I don't want to be commuting too far between work, home and exercise.

Bangna / Nong Bon area sounds like it may be good but really not sure about the work thing. Samut Prakan would likely be another option but it's a large area and difficult to figure out without having been there.

I'm already in Thailand and will visit Bangkok to sort out the details if I decide to move. Any comments and suggestions appreciated.

Many thanks,

In the area of Prawet....near Bangna and Samut Prakan....on Chaloem Prakiat is the "Kings Park" (Suan luean Law Gow...sic) for exercise...

It might be a bit further out than you would prefer .....but don't know where you job is....BUT its a nice area to live....good food, entertainment (clubs) and shopping all nearby

Aren't you putting the cart before the horse? You want to live near where you work, so you have asked where you can live. Doesn't the job come first and the place to live is dictated by where yo find work?

Check out the Minburi area. Lots of government schools in the area as well as a number of International schools too. All kinds of affordable housing, markets, transportation etc.

I haven't started looking for a job yet and figure a nice first step would be to find a suitable area(s) to live in and then move on to finding a decent school. If there aren't any decent employers to be found in the vicinity then I'll move on to another region of choice. I'm in no rush and would likely start the job search in October before the school year begins when teachers are in higher demand.

Thanks everyone....I've started looking into Prawet, train tracks, and Min Buri.

Any other ideas appreciated.

Where are you from? You want to exercise in 38C temps (during hot season)?

From Canada....with disgusting pasty skin to match.

Not so bad if you stick to late afternoon / night and drink a few litres of proper water. I'd also recommend early morning but not sure it exists.

What type of training? Fold up bikes are all the rage and are BTS friendly so you can train anywhere you want and not have to live in any particular area. I dont get your reasoning though, wouldn't you be better of grabbing a hotel in October?, you dont even know if you will get a job and the last thing you need is to be locked into a lease

Well, Sathorn and Silom means you can exercise in Lumpini Park and if it's Sathorn you've got the added bonus of Teochew as well which has a lot of joggers, an outdoor gym etc.

Guess I've been confusing. Would base the job search off of areas that would be nice to live in. Would get a hotel room, look for a job then get an apartment as close as possible to the school. Just a simple way to narrow the search in a massive city with schools everywhere.

Chatujak park. Get a condo with a pool near a BTS/MRT station,

Hey okay, front me the cash and I promise to pay you back within the next 129 years ;)

Jatujak has three parks next to each other where thousands exercise each day. Lots of options. Nice part of town too.
