BANGKOK: -- MAJOR Sansern Kaewkamnerd, who recently resigned from this post as deputy government spokesman, is tipped to be promoted to government spokesman, a source at Government House said yesterday.

The source said Prayut had already informed Sansern about his new post.

Prayut was reportedly pleased with the performance so far of Sansern and Maj Werachon Sukhonthapatipak as deputy government spokesmen, thus the PM personally appointed Sansern as government spokesman. Meanwhile, General Wilart Arunsri, secretary-general for the PM who is currently government spokesman, will work in the secretary-general's role solely.

Sansern, however, refused to say anything until everything is cleared. He said he was not certain yet which post he would be appointed to, as he has to wait for the PM's order. He asked the media to give him some privacy while he recovers from illness.

"...He asked the media to give him some privacy while he recovers from illness. "

This last line in the article may possibly be the reason

I wish the Thai news reports would make up their minds about just what rank this guy has...

Half the time he's called a Major. The other half of the time he's called a Major General. And probably some other versions in between.

In case they hadn't noticed, there is a bit of a difference between Major and Major General!

Will Sansern draw two government salaries, one as a military officer and one as a government spokesman?

The Interim Charter provides for such double wages.
