I saw a recent post on here about the drop in alcohol content of Chang Classic Beer dropping in steps from 6.4% to 6% then to 5.8%.

Well I just bought a bottle today and it is now down to 5.5%, hardly how you justify the name "Classic"

Are they gradually dropping it down to a level that allows it to be sold near schools and temples so the kids can take a swift chug?

Pretty sure this has already been discussed several times.

Yes indeed it has been discussed several times and everytime they change the recipe I will discuss it again!

I have a feeling that it will eventually drop to 5% making it the same strength as the other beers.

I have no idea why this is happening but I have no doubt there's a plan behind it.

Does the duty / tax rate change based on the alcohol volume percentage ? If so any idea what the 'bands' / tax rates are ?

Has the price changed ?

I meant this particular change.

Well the price is generally going up but it is difficult to make comparisons her. I used to pay 100 Baht for 3 bottles years ago when it was 6.4%. Recently though it has gone from 50 Baht per bottle to 55 Baht in quite a short (months) space of time whilst the alcohol / tax content has been reducing. Like I say, from what was a pretty strong lager at 6.4% (and may actually have been 6.8% if I recall) to have dropped over the last 3 months or so to now 5.5% in steps, 6.4, 6.0, 5.8 and now 5.5, it is no longer the "Classic" brand that I was used to, it isn't even remotely like what it used to be.

SAVE OUR CHANG!

Actually, the better value beer at the moment seems to be Red Horse, 6%, was 47 Baht a bottle, went up to 50 Baht at Tesco but has now gone down to 49, it has a 640ml bottle rather than the 630 Chang. Not a bad drink actually.

First of all Chang and beer shouldn't be used in the same context and second may TVF can create a new sub forum dedicated to discuss such immense important issues...

Bikey not this one I mean a sub forum solely dedicated to the decline of alcohol in the basic nutrition of many expats here...

Interesting. I've always wondered what alcoholics talk about.

Right on CC but you forgot to mention the more important issue of the huge price drop from 50 to 49 baht...as my missus would say oh my Buddha. Get a life/occupation/hobby/clue
