Nakhon Phanom and Surin locals condemn Ratchaprasong blast

BANGKOK, 19 August 2015 (NNT) – Civic groups and various organizations have condemned Monday's attack in Bangkok's Ratchaprasong area, and urged authorities to swiftly bring the culprits to justice.

In Nakhon Phanom, hundreds gathered at the provincial city hall to submit a letter to the provincial governor expressing their condemnation of the atrocious bombing, which they said was an inhumane attack against innocent people and which unsettled tourists. Somchai Witdamrong, the deputy governor of Nakhon Phanom, accepted the letter and also voiced his condemnation of what he said was a barbaric and cruel act.

In Surin, locals visited city hall to submit their letter of condemnation to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha through the provincial governor. The group said the cruelty of the perpetrators was demonstrated by the large number of bomb victims and the selection of the attack site where many people usually gathered.

Royal Brunei to waive fees for change in Bangkok flights

19-8-2558-9-38-26-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BRUNEI: -- National flag carrier Royal Brunei (RB) airlines will waive reissuance fees for passengers who wish to defer their flights to Bangkok following the deadly blast that rocked Thailand's capital city on Monday night, according to The Brunei Times.

An RB spokesman said the fee waiver will be subjected to certain terms and conditions, but did not specify further.

He added that Bruneians who had bought Bangkok flight tickets are pushing ahead with their travel plans despite the bombing and “only a small number” of travellers have opted to cancel or postpone their travels in light of the explosion.

RB has yet to receive any circular from the Thai government advising against travels to Bangkok, he said.

General Manager of Century Travel Centre Foo C P, said a small group of customers returned to Brunei yesterday earlier than planned due to safety concerns. There were also customers due to travel soon who decided to cancel their plans, while others who are still in Bangkok had decided to stay as they had originally planned.

He advised travellers to exercise caution while travelling and to avoid crowded places for their own safety.

The Brunei Embassy in Thailand on Monday night said no Bruneians were reported injured in the blast outside Erawan Shrine along the Rachaprasong intersection in central Bangkok.

Border security in Thailand reinforced after bomb attack

CHIANG RAI, 19 August 2015 (NNT) - Border authorities have enhanced security measures following the bomb attack on August 17. The measures are meant to prevent further violence and the smuggling of contraband.

The increased police and military presence along the Thai-Burmese border of Mae Sai district, Chiang Rai province was prompted by the bombing in Bangkok. People and vehicles entering Thai territory are being searched for weapons.

Security officials are expected to work around the clock to make sure that no ill-intentioned people can cross over to Thailand.

In Nakhon Phanom province, authorities have also reinforced security in an attempt to prevent further violence. Many local Thais and Laotians have been stocking up on food and everyday items at the border market near Laos due to concern over the unrest.
