PHUKET: -- A woman was unable to control her car Toyota Vios while driving home from work hit to the traffic pole at Darasamuth Intersection about 1:30am yesterday morning.

Lt Ekarach Chatphai of the Vichit police, who responded to the call, told The Phuket News that the woman, in her mid-40s, was asleep at the wheel when she ploughed into the traffic lights pole.

“She was not drunk. We breath tested her and found no traces of alcohol. She was working from 7am to midnight and was very tired,” Lt Ekarach said, but declined to name the woman.

Regardless, police charged the woman with reckless driving causing public property damage and fined her the maximum B1,000.

“She will also have to pay for the repairs to the traffic lights, which will cost her about B100,000 because it was brand-new,” Lt Ekarach said.

Samak Lueduanghad, Director of the Highways Department Phuket office, confirmed that the traffic lights have now been replaced and are fully functional.

' A woman was unable to control her car '

yeah, cars can become uncontrollable at any time ........ gigglem.gif

Mind of their own those Vios's. Since the car is being treated as a sentient being, perhaps the car should pay the fine and for the pole - its obviously not the drivers fault.

Also isn't this what insurance is for?

...oh-oh....she's really gonna have to do a lot more overtime to pay for that....which is why she crashed in the first place......

Quite happy to breath test her for taking out the traffic lights, but kill a policeman and they let you go home.

Never heard of so many sleepy people driving cars as in Amazing Thailand ...

Just remember if your feeling sleepy hit old traffic lights the cost to replace will be lowerwhistling.gif presumably they won't use new equipmentsmile.png

Confusion here is B100K not B100,000.00?

<deleted> !

Confusion here is B100K not B100,000.00?

100,000.00 + 1000 = 101,000.00 or B101K.......rolleyes.gif

I wonder how he would have got on if they had quoted "B100 Grand"?

the woman was asleep at the wheel she was tired? what next ? her tiredness could have cost someone their lives get real you people this woman was a danger and she should be treated as such.

I wonder if "a sleepy farang" would have got away with this accident with a 1000 baht fine, and insurance taking care of the damage?

the woman was asleep at the wheel she was tired? what next ? her tiredness could have cost someone their lives get real you people this woman was a danger and she should be treated as such.

Man, have some compassion. This lady had just worked something like a 12 hour day and was probably trying to get home so that she could get her kid(s) set for the next day.
