My Non B is about to expire September 1 and the paperwork will not be completed in time. The work permit has already been approved for one year, expiring September 1, 2016. Immigration (Samut Prakan) has given me two options: overstay and pay 500 baht per day until all the paperwork is completed and submitted properly (and the visa extended), or leave and return on a tourist visa and start the process over from the beginning. I am leaning toward overstaying and paying the penalty -- even though it could be a couple of weeks or possible more. Other than the cost, can anyone give me advice on whether I am choosing the wrong option? Does an overstay count against you in the long run as long as all penalties are paid?

Thank you in advance!

You run the (small) risk of being discovered by the Police to be on overstay which could result in a world of trouble.

Will immigration provide a documented statement which confirms their advice for you to break the law ?

Thanks for your reply. Didn't even consider that! Thank you. Assuming I would be willing to take that risk, any knowledge, insight, or feedback on how an overstay could effect future visas or entries to the Kingdom?

Personally I would never overstay and risk the chance of having to go through deportation if caught.

At the moment it doesn't.

People that overstay can exit turn around and come straight back in!

Immigration want to introduce a ban on overstayers of 90 days plus. But it has yet to be authorised and may never happen.

your non b visa or extension;

YES , use this option.

if u have a wp

fly down to Penang an wait for all the docs to be completed , fed ex down to you and apply for a 1 year visa there

no overstay.

Paperwork should not take more than 1 week, or u must have a shit ass accountant

He doesn't need to have a shit ass accountant, it took me 3 months to get all (hopefully) different documents I need for my Non-B.

This is Thailand and there has so far been new rules every year sins I came here... This year it has already been 3 trips to Laos before now having (hopefully) all document's in order for the 4th time:

First time they told me I needed some more documents I have never needed before.

Second time they told me that I needed to change somethings in 2 documents.

Third time the told me that I needed 1 more document and that 1 document was to old. That document was OK the 1st and 2nd time I went there but with 2 months already passed it was to old the 3rd time...

What to say, sometimes I think it would be better to just work illegally on a tourist visa!!!

Oh sorry, I forgot!

It's never good to have overstay, even if the immigration officer say so at one office. I was recommended by an immigration officer in Phitsanulok to just pay my overstay at the airport last year instead of getting a extension as I only needed 2 days. At Suvarnabhumi they questioned me for about 25-30 minutes about why I had a 2 day overstay, as I had a previous 44 day overstay. During the 2011 flood I forgot about my visa as I was taking care of the house of my (today ex-) girlfriend, we had 10 cm water on the second floor at the peak so I didn't really think much about my visa...
But every time passing the border or visiting immigration sins last year they have reminded me to NOT get an overstay!
