Total items carried shouldn't cost more than 10000 THB?

I'm travelling (solo) on 3rd, and this will be my first ever International trip so my nerves are a bit on the edge. I read somewhere that only one camera is allowed in Thailand, and that the total price of all the items I bring shouldn't exceed 10000 THB.

I was planning to carry a DSLR and a bridge (point and shoot) camera and my tripod, but the prices easily exceed 10000 THB. Any clues??

You can bring anything you like... We brought the contents of a house! If you are vacationing just make sure everything you bring is insured, just like travelling anywhere... no limits mate!

that's one antiquated regulation!

in practice, customs don't bother, as already just the shoes of many travelers are already above the limit.

they check for alcohol and cigarettes.

I brought in 45 Kg of IT equipment - I thought my luck had ran out when they requested to xray the boxes.

But after seeing in the xray that it was IT equipment, they just said welcome and waved me through.

so... no worries! just don't bring alcoholic beverages and tobacco products

They could scrutinize new items, that you might re-sell. They mentioned within the last few years they would be looking for new items, like designer stuff from duty free. I think this may apply to "rich Thais," who take day trips to HK.

As long as the stuff looks used and is not in new boxes, etc., you will be fine. But they are cracking down on those coming back with new luxury items. My neighbor got nailed for a new Gucci purse. It was still in the original packaging and his wife was using another purse. It was a high bill!

I just got back from Europe with a bunch of electronic stuff. Cameras, tablets, smart phones, etc. No problems at all.

yes, I had a Desktop computer in a box they x-rayed. They just said "computer," and waved me through. Designer watches, shoes, handbags a different story.

Interesting!

Thanks a lot everyone, really appreciate the help I've got with my first post here. I've decided to go with a DSLR and just buy a gopro hero there. I don't understand why they haven't taken the 10000 TBH thing down from their official website though!

antiquated regulations are always useful to keep a handle on someone they have trouble with
