Police to announce arrest of 'Bangkok bomber'

Apparently, the RTP say that the suspect was arrested on the Thai side of the border in Sa Kaeo province...

I believe that's the procedure when you're kicked out of one country and into another, they arrest you on arrival.

Fair point. Stands to reason that he could've been handed over by Cambodia, and then arrested on the Thai side of the border.

I wonder why the Cambodia part was conspicuously absent? So more reward can be ditched out?

Surprised he didn't cross the border, let's wait and see how this plays out.

Somyot shifted 6 Immigration officers out of that office within the last 24-hours so maybe his 'friendly' was one of those and he was stuck.

Somyot also ordered the immediate transfer of ALL the cops from Minburi and Nong Chok police stations. No reasons given but appears it could be linked as to how the handled the arrest of the alleged bomb maker and subsequent handling of the materiel found there or how they dealt with the media.

There will be more fallout for sure.

Regarding Minburi there was some talk of lazy police not doing their jobs properly in the area where the apartment was located, apparently this kind of behaviour won't be tolerated.

So they fired transferred them...

It was reported earlier that the 18 cops were transferred to inactive posts for falsely claiming they had thoroughly conducted searches in jurisdictions where bomb materials and a suspect were later discovered. You couldn't make this stuff up - one of the biggest manhunts in recent Thai history, with the whole world watching, and these cops don't even bother to conduct a decent search before giving the area the all clear!

And people still defend them.

Why no handcuffs?

He would be shot in China for the crime ....... very quickly after the guilty verdict and then it would be ...... next please!

And is the way to do it.

No, It is NOT the way to do it.

Police torture + unjust Judicial system + capitol Punishment = Human Rights abuses

To those who recommend torture. What if he isn't involved??

The thing about torture is that is often produces really poor results because people under such stress will often just say anything for it to stop. Of course it is also great to get false confessions. Hopefully they've got some solid evidence.

Agreed totally.

the Spanish Inquisition and Salem witch hunts come to mind.

countries with the death penalty should go no where near torture.

Why did they not take off his cap & sunglasses and roll his sleeves up ?

Place him in a yellow shirt, keep the glasses on, a backpack with a bomb in it and a sign in his hand" i am a bomber".

Then we would know for sure because they caught him trying to bomb again!

In the Chinese company I work in Iraq, there are 3 Arab speaking Chinese, with Chinese passports but they don't look like your typical Asian, they do look Arabic, two are from an area close to Mongolia, and the other I do believe comes from the same place as this recent guy, they're also Muslim, but Chinese.

People shouldn't get too hung up on the fact this guy doesn't look Chinese wink.png

Good result if this is indeed the case, will be interesting to see of the Cambodian authorities were indeed the ones who detained him.

Still don't think RTP will un-pay themselves and pay Cambodian police

Correct, so did Prayuth.

Prayuth also said he was sending the Army to Koh Tao to stamp out the mafia, and that ugly women shouldn't wear bikini's ... so at times he is VERY adept at misleading ;)

The most disturbing part of this whole thing is how will they chop up the reward money now? There are some upstanding cops that deserve to get paid!

Cops do get a salary.........

In fact I read that a cop gave another cop a million baht for doing something he was already paid to do...Some great cop salaries out there.

anotheruser name these outstanding officers of the law ...............what a silly thing to say ..............

Mr Thaksin and Oak might feel a little disappointed when they hear this news. Everyone has a limit to their largesse.

Xinjiang - I bet the passport is not fake and the bombing is linked to the deportation of Xinjiang Ugher back to China.

The Uighur connection has been one of the leading and one of the most LOGICAL theories for the motivation for this

international TERROR event from the very start. So this isn't actually surprising. What might be surprising, assuming that hopefully they got the bomber, is that after all this time he is still close enough to Thailand to catch.

^ This. As I posted the other day, a source quoted in this article in the

Straits Times says, "The facts speak for themselves - the scale, venue, the identity of those killed, the ethnic origin of the suspect. You don't have to be a terrorism expert to draw a conclusion."

We know that Thailand is the major conduit for Uighur refugees from China.

We know that there has been numerous instances where these Uighurs have joined, or attempted to join terror groups. <Link>

We know that Thailand that recently sent 109 Uighur men back to China, and that this act drew international condemnation - not only from the UNHCR, which considered it "a flagrant violation of international law - but also

Turkey's Foreign Ministry, which said the deportation violated international humanitarian laws and came despite "numerous initiatives" by Turkey to prevent their repatriation.

We know that these deportations sparked widespread protests in Turkey on July 9, when both the Thai Embassy in Ankara and the consulate in Istanbul had to be temporarily shut after the consulate was ransacked by mostly Uighur protesters. Windows at the consulate were smashed, furnishings damaged and the sign outside pulled down and Thai flags burnt, while protests outside the Chinese embassy have seen Chinese flags burnt and police called in to fire

pepper spray at demonstrators.

We know that, since then, Chinese citizens in Turkey are being harassed and attacked.

We know that both Thailand and China have issued a travel warning to its citizens travelling to Turkey.

It was reported (once, on 19 August, but never spoken of again) that RTP had deployed more officers to the Chinese embassy in Bangkok after it made a request two weeks earlier.

The same report also revealed that Intelligence from the Special Branch also suggested there could be an attack on Chinese tourists after August 11. This has, curiously, never been raised again.

We have in custody a man who is most likely a Turkish Uighur, who was found with bomb making equipment and dozens of fake Turkish passports - and five rented apartments, four of them empty.

And now we have the alleged "main suspect" in custody, who was carrying a passport that suggests he is a Uighur...

Calm down, calm down Sherlock let's not get too excited with all these quotes from various news outlets. Let's just wait an see.

Guy does not look like guy in yellow shirt TIT

Yes, he does. Look at his passport photo and the police sketch. Definite resemblance, though hard to say for certain if its the same guy.

Thats some statement!! Full of self contradiction cheesy.gif

Apparently English is your third or fourth language. Better get some lessons from Thai elementary school students. For starters, google the word "resemblance"...no charge for the first lesson

Time for enhanced interrogation to proceed. I for one won't be worried about human rights.

I'd like the powers that be to consider a scenario involving a heavy rubber mallet a warm scrotum and a cold steel table.

Its time for answers.

You should always be concerned about human rights. Throwing that away for emotiion, is a slippery slope that ends in the worst events of history.
