Deputy police chief finds Krabi fishing industry largely free from illegal activities

KRABI, 3 September 2015 (NNT) – Fishing vessels operating in Krabi are rarely found to be involved in human trafficking issues, according to Royal Thai Police Deputy Commissioner-General Ek Angsananon.

Police General Ek visited the center for the control of fishing vessels in Krabi on Wednesday as part of his follow-up on work to address human trafficking and illegal fishing.

He explained that based on officials' evaluation, most fishing activities in Krabi were undertaken by the locals themselves. The locals have taken steps to conserve marine resources for more than a decade. Most of the fishing vessels used surrounding net to make catch and return to port daily. Thus, human trafficking problems are rarely found.

Pol. Gen. Ek indicated that the work of the center for control of fishing vessels was in order. He also told local police officers to support efforts to prevent and suppress illegal labor and human trafficking.

The deputy police chief also visited an unloading dock in Sai Thai Sub-district, Mueang Krabi District where he talked to fishing vessel operators, who told him that they were adversely affected by the new regulation calling for fishing vessels to cease operation during the 1st and 3rd and the 11th and 12th of each month.

"...rarely found to be involved in human trafficking issues."

Sure, if the police don't look close enough or look the other way then there rarely any human trafficking arrests, except maybe a few months before the yearly international reports on human trafficking, illegal fishing, etc., are due to come out.

I'm convinced nor the Gen' nor anybody in his family or among his close friends could have any link at all with anyone from Krabi's fishing industry.

As I'm sure this Gen' like all the other Gens' lives a simple life in accordance with his professional income.
