This has now happened 4 or 5 times in the last 5 to 6 weeks whilst sat in my condo. All of a sudden I get a bite as image shown. It starts off with just a small itch and then over a 20 - 30 minute period develops into a lump that burns and itches considerably more. I have no pets, and although I have never seen what does it it's not a mosquito or wasp. Does anyone out there have a clue?

Yep, that definitely looks like a mosquito bite.

Different people have different reactions to bites. For me a mozzie bite is a small itchy spot.

On the other hand I get reactions like this to those tiny red ants and small spider bites.

Having been bitten by mosquitoes 100's if not 1,000's of times I am aware of the effect their bite have on me which is pretty non-existent unlike this bite that causes considerable discomfort and lasts for hours. Have been bitten by red ants before but only ever at ground level, am on the 20th floor and never seen an ant in the place. It's now been 4 hours and the discomfort is still pretty intense and the swelling is larger too.

There are different types of mosquitoes.

IMO, looks like the site of an ant sting that's been scratched/irritated quite a bit.

I find some mosquito bites barely leave a mark, whilst others look exactly like your photo. I guess maybe it depends on the mosquito or something.

My money's still on mosquito.

It looks like a bite from the aedes aegypti species, which is known to carry dengue and chikungunya virus.

People react in different ways but that is deffo a mozzie bite.

Put a spoon in hot (NOT boiling) water and hold it on the bite for a minute or so.

Buy a can of spray and spray the dark nooks and crannies (behind cupboards wardrobes, though not ones where you store food) in your condo/house just before you head out.....

My money is on those tiny little ants that you can barely see.

But they usually bite me in the nutsack when they come out of hiding from my hung-up towel, or my underwear drawer- or more insidious- they traipse across my bed on their way from one spot to another, and get all caught up in my sheets while I'm sleeping...

Positive it is ants. Tiny little red ones did that to me twice in the last several weeks. Exact same results as in the photo and saw him on my arm after the deed. This is from a week ago, same guy two bites on my forearm as he was trapped between my arm and the computer desktop. Soon as I felt it and saw him I knew I was going to be in some discomfort for a while. The welts were around 15-20 minutes after being bit and as in the op, itches and burns significantly. As always, headed over to get my Tiger Balm to put on it which helps a lot. That larger welt is around 10-15mm.

Some mosquito are very small, and may be in big amounts inside your home without noticing it. Buy and use an electric raquet and you will "hear" them. Apply Antergan on the bites, or any other cream with hidro-cortisone. Do not scratch the bites at all.

Ok...rip out and buy one of those small tin of "Sam Buck" (don't have a photo sorry)...wash the area clean first and rub this stuff in liberally...

Gone after a couple minutes (Itchiness that is)....repeat if needed...

I'm voting for those micro ants as well who love even a microscopic food source. Are you sitting in places where you have eaten anything even just a few times, even the tiniest of crumbs or liquid can attract them.

Do they seem to come from nowhere or some sort of small trauma on the skin like a rub or scratch then the swelling reduces to a red mark or sometimes leaving an itchy spot which takes a week or so to go away..?

Ho Ho Ho. I laugh on anybody who thinks a clean apartment is a defense against getting bitten in Thailand. A toxic apartment, maybe.

Clean apartment? It'll reduce the bites, but if he's only getting bitten a few times a day, he's hit the diminishing returns. Any cleaner won't help.

There is a very tiny green/brown insect here in Thailand that secretes an acid like liquid when it lands on you or has been squashed when you slap it. At first you will feel nothing, but a day later it looks like a burn/blister and can be very uncomfortable.

if you live in pattaya could be anything known or a new unknown from sea or bar
