PM to hold discussions before deciding on new charter drafting team

BANGKOK, 8 September 2015 (NNT) - The Prime Minister is to consult a working committee before making a decision about the establishment of a new charter drafting body.

According to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the setting up of a new 21-member constitution drafting team needs to be considered with appropriate advice, since the National Reform Council, with its majority vote, rejected the draft constitution on Sunday.

PM Prayut said that the next drafting process must be carefully established, considering the lessons learnt from the rejected draft.

He personally looks at the rejection of the draft charter as a setback which has stopped the reconciliation process from proceeding, the Premier added.

However, the PM stated that he had nothing personal to gain from the draft charter being either rejected or endorsed, while expressing his appreciation for the hard work of all the members of the Constitution Drafting Committee.

LPG price lowered, NGV price raised

BANGKOK, 8 September 2015 (NNT) – The Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO) has slashed the LPG price by 67 satang per kilogram while raising the NGV price by 50 satang per kilogram.

The Energy Policy Administration Committee, chaired by Energy Minister Anantaporn Kanjanarat, has resolved to make the price changes in order for the gas prices to better reflect their true costs. According to the committee, raising the NGV price to 13.50 baht per kilogram meant the price is approaching the true cost of 14.60 baht per kilogram; however, the NGV price for public service vehicles is being maintained at 10 baht per kilogram. LPG is now priced at 22.29 baht per kilogram.

The committee has also reduced the contribution amount toward the Oil Fund charged on gasohol 95 and gasohol 91 fuels. Owing to the changes, gasohol 95 now sells for 40 satang per liter less, whereas the pump price of gasohol 91 remains the same.

Dr Wisanu says stripping of police rank didn’t breach Article 112

52-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- The government's legal expert Dr Wisanu Krue-ngam made clear today that the stripping of the former prime minister's police rank by the military junta invoking Section 44 did not breach Article 112 of the Criminal Code.

Dr Wisanu, the deputy prime minister, voiced his opinion when was asked on a lawyer’s petition to the Royal Thai Police seeking legal action against Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha on accusation that he breached Article 112 for not abiding by the legal procedure in stripping Thaksin Shinawatra of his police lieutenant colonel rank.

The legal expert advised the lawyer to restudy Section 44 of the interim constitution which he said the authority delegated to the prime minister was not beyond the royal power.

He said the action taken was not aimed at the Shinawatra family so as to restore peace and order back to the country, but aimed at putting an end to the issue so that this would not become repeated news.

It was also aimed at how the action taken would not affect the royal power, he said.

He compared the action taken to coming at a road junction where one has to choose whether to turn right or left and need to go forward.

“If we know that going to the right is inappropriate, then we must turn left as it can go to the same target,” he said.

Asked to comment on Thaksin’s view on the stripping of his rank, the deputy prime minister said his positive view showed that he understood the issue and had no problem.
