Hi,

a friend of mine intends to invest 2 Million BHt in Thailand and in the Thai currency.Period is maximum 15 months.

He not really can have any loss on his initial capital.

Any advice how to in a safe way invest and receive 3%.

As the exchange rate currently trends the safest bet to generate 3% can well be not to exchange money now, but wait?

Without a chance to capital loss, your friend pretty much limited to time deposits...with interest rates for now, he probably will come bit short on the 3% for 15 months, but on the upside virtually 0% risk to loss of capital.

Hi,

Seems without a risk of capital loss then no real clear options for 3% returns.

R u saying to exchange the funds into a foreign currency for 15 months and then exchange back into the Thai bht...?

What currency would u select then?

Do the funds need to be send over seas or can they get exchanged with a Thailand bank for example a dollar account or euro account?

His 2,000,000 is now already in the thai currency at a thai bank...

He has 15 months for some investment then he needs back that amount or more again in the thai currency...

How can make it more in the meantime?

He won't get above 3% without taking some risk on capital.

Best he'll get on bank interest is around 2.6% to 2.8%. UOB have one of the best rates for that ball park tenor of under 15m. But they'll need to check T&C

Please bear in mind though it's possible the Thai Deposit Assurance (govt guarantee) might reduce from THB 25mio to THB 1mio in August 2016 which is less than a year away.

So even in a bank there's a small element of risk to capital. Hence they might want to split across 2 or more banks
