Amnard Choodet was arrested after allegations he smashed a Kuwaiti tourist's nose with his gun.

PHUKET: -- A territorial defense volunteer from Kathu was arrested early this morning (Sept 9) in Patong with a gun and bullets after he allegedly slapped the face of a tourist with the pistol breaking his nose.

At 4:30am, Kathu police arrested Amnard Choodet, 38, with a .38 Taurus revolver and 18 bullets on Taweewong Rd following allegations he smashed a Kuwaiti tourist's nose with his gun. The victim, Fahad Al Mutariy, 57, was taken to hospital to treat the damage to his nose.

Amnard was held at Kathu Police Station and charged with carrying a firearm in a public place without permission and is being investigated for the assault.

“He is a member of the Kathu territorial defense volunteers,” said Maj Sarawut Phutpornaphibarn who seized Amnardʼs identification card and weapon permit.

The arrest of Amnard came when police officers spotted two men fighting in front of Royal Palm Hotel on Taweewong Rd. They broke up the fight and took Mr Fahad to Patong Hospital. They apprehended Amnard and seized his pistol which he still was holding in his hand.

Mr Fahad told police that he was walking down the street when Amnard approached him, he then attacked him and smashed his nose with the gun.

“He looked like he was drunk. I don't know why he attacked me,” Mr Fahad told police.

Kathu District chief, Sayan Chanachaiwong told The Phuket News that he had not heard of a local official attacking a tourist, but he will contact Kathu police to find out the details.

“If the allegation is true the defense volunteerʼs identification card will be terminated and he will never work as a defense volunteer again,” he said.

Kathu police are questioning Amnard about the incident and waiting for Mr Fahad to be released from hospital to see if he wants to file charges.

Kathu Territorial Defense Volunteer. Is that like a hired gun to protect Kathu from Patong or Phuket Town Territorial Volunteers?

He was in Patong, plus Patong is part of Kathu.

So for the moment I go with Roel's idea that he has protected Kathu from a Thalang invasion, very successful as well.

Are the Kathu people arming themselves for civil war in Phuket ? lol Thai men have the maturity and commonsense of a 14 year old boy yet theyre alowed to run around in public with loaded guns?

Why does anyone come here for a holiday?

Judging from the OP: no.

Well, clearly this defense volunteer war expecting an immanent assault on Thailand's territorial integrity (possibly from Kuwait). Why else would he carry enough spare ammo to reload his six-shooter twice?

So, after the usual internal discussions, this will all turn out to be an unfortunate misunderstanding. Perhaps Mr. Amnard will even be commended for his efforts to defend the country against foreign invaders.

Possibly an armed robbery gone wrong, and after "mediation" is now a firearm possesion, and possible assault charge.

The tourist victim goes home, so, there goes the assult charge. He will not be coming back to Phuket.

That just leaves a firearm possesion charge, Slap on the wrist.

Next case.

Now picture a farang her doing the same.

Phuket Apartheid - that's what it is here.
