Somkid urges aviation control officials to be ready for EASA officials

BANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Transport was told by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak on Wednesday to get ready for the arrival here of officials from European Aviation Safety Agency to inspect aviation safety standards in Thailand on September 14.

At a meeting with senior officials of the ministry, the deputy prime minister said the officials responsible for aviation safety standards must be ready to be queried by EASA representatives. He added that he didn’t know what he would say if the officials fail the test.

While praising those responsible for dealing with the IUU (illegal, unreported, unregulated) fishing, the deputy prime minister admitted that he was worried with the aviation safety standards issue.

Dr Somkid also told the top administrators of the Transport Ministry to speed up implementation of various infrastructure projects such as the Blue Line train project and airport link extension project and to make sure that all the projects are transparent.

He pointed out that the two short-term economic stimulus packages introduced by the government to help the SMEs, farmers and low income-earners were sufficient to kick-start the economy.

I like to think they've been preparing for a while and not just starting now in response to an instruction given just days before the need to answer questions.

I like to think but ... !

I hope new Minister Somkid kicks some butt and injects some sense of urgency into the bureaucrats.

For months now, some people have been complacent, thinking that they are safe because they supported the right colour.

Organisations outside Thailand do not care what shirt Thais wear - international standards need to be met.

DPM Somkid tells Ministry of Transport to set investment priorities

BANGKOK, 10 September 2015 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has assigned the Ministry of Transport to set investment priorities for the various transport infrastructure projects when making use of the generous investment budget assigned to the ministry.

Mr. Somkid, who is charged with overseeing affairs relating to the economy, met with senior transport ministry officials yesterday to give them his policies. Speaking afterward to the press, he said the Ministry of Transport has been granted a large investment budget, and thus it needs to set priorities for the use of said budget. The prioritizing must take into consideration competitiveness, quality of life, tourism and the drive to truly make Thailand the connectivity center in the ASEAN region.

Mr. Somkid noted that the decision to go ahead with each project must take into account creating connectivity for the various industrial estates, so that investors will be continuously drawn toward the industrial parks. He added that emphasis needs to be placed on joint public-private sectors investments which were transparent and which involved investment by individual members of the public.

According to the deputy prime minister, projects that will be sped up include the airport rail link, the Blue Line electric train route linking Bang Khae with Phutthamonthon no. 4 Rd., and the improvement of aviation standards.

He is telling them to make sure they are doing their jobs properly while the inspection is happening. They need to show they actually understand their responsibilities in case they are asked about it.

Of course after the inspection they can go back to the Thai way.....

"He added that he didn’t know what he would say if the officials fail the test."

How about "YOU'RE FIRED!"

More like; "they don't understand Thainess!"

Or, for the junta lovers on TVF; "But, but, but....Thaksin!"
