Buri Ram at high risk of worse drought

BANGKOK, 12 September 2015 (NNT) - All 16 reservoirs in Buri Ram province have less than 40% of water left after the rain did not fall in rainfall catchment areas. Severe drought is likely if the situation continues.

Huay Chara-khe Mak reservoir in Buri Ram now stores 6.32 million cubic meters of water or 25.67% of its capacity. Director of the Buri Ram Irrigation Project Kitikun Sephasiraphon said the average water volume of all 16 reservoirs was just 38% of their capacity or much lower than the same period last year. He expressed concerns that drought in the province will possibly worsen since the rainy season will end in 1-2 months from now.

The irrigation project director therefore urged people and farmers to help save water and store water for use throughout the dry season.

Commerce Min sets palm fruit price at 3.20 baht/kg

BANGKOK, 12 September 2015 (NNT) - The Ministry of Commerce is purchasing palm fruits at the price of no less than 3.20 baht per kilogram, one baht lower than the previous benchmark price in the country.

Chutima Bunyapraphasara, Permanent Secretary for Commerce, said the price of palm oil traded in the country is relatively higher than the actual price in the international market, which prompted domestic reserves to hit 450,000 tons, 200,000 tons higher than the average amount.

In order to solve the oversupply, the ministry has decided to buy palm fruits at the price of 3.20 baht per kilogram.

According to her, the new buying price reflects the actual price in the global market.

Despite the new policy, the permanent secretary said palm growing is still profitable, given that the cost, excluding transportation, only ranges from 2.50 baht to 3.13 baht per kilogram.

The announcement was made more than 80 days after Lin Hui received sperm from Xuang Xuang, Lin Ping’s father.

Mr Benjapol went on to say that a normal pregnancy period of a panda is between 95-160 days. Lin Hui gave birth to Lin Ping after she was 97 days pregnant.
