No reports of any problems at Mae Sai related to the latest news for the Cambodia borders.

You should not have a problem getting a visa exempt entry if you are not currently on one. You will only get 15 days unless you are from a G7 country.

The 20k needs to be in your hand though, not in the bank. I have seen people been made to go and get it before now, although the chances of being asked for it (assuming you don't dress like a homeless person) are probably in the 1000's to 1.

That will make them more likely to want to see the cash than less likely, they may wanna see you can support him.

I had some friends refused recently for a I/O for 15 days and they were from England. They told me they needed a valid double entry tourist Visa to be allowed through. They flew to KL the next day to get the extra time as they were going home to England in 13 days time.

Had they already gotten a 30 day extension of their entry? If not that may of been why they were told no. Mae Sai turns people away if they are eligible for an extension.

UK passport holders get 30 days at a border crossing not 15.

I go to Mae Sai often as I live nearby. I thought all that going over the border and back for another visa exemption finished about 2 years ago. That was why there are few non-Thais there nowadays.

I was surprised to hear it had been going on at Poipet.

People who live in Mae Sai who used to cross for visas have all been told its no longer possible there. Chiang Khong is an option.

There have been reports of people doing a visa exempt entry at Mae Sai but it seems to vary by the day. Also you should note that I wrote if they did not have one already.

Unless a person was getting a 15 day visa on arrival (1000 baht) they would only be getting a new entry not a visa.

From what I saw, they had 2 double entry Tourist Visas. Both had been used with extensions an they just wanted 15 more days as they were flying home in 13 days time. They got refused and were told to fly out and in again or go to Laos. I have to go next month to enable my double entry tourist visa, so I hope with all this turmoil, that there will be no problems.

I have about 3 single entry tourist visas, a education visa that I used for 18 months and one double entry Tourist Visa from Brisbane and one double entry by Lao. I hope to get one more double entry in Laos, so I can then go home to Australia next year in August for a break of 4 months. That then will leave me only 3 more years till I can get the Retirement Visa.

That sounds like an unnecessary and expensive waste. They could have travelled to Chiang Khong, 100km away to cross over to Huay Xai in Laos for a night and come back, no problems.

"used to cross for visas" what do you mean by that?

If you have a valid visa, surely you can still cross to Tachilek and come back the same day? Although personally I think staying a night or two would be a better idea.

When I went there last year, most of the foreign tourists I saw were elderly westerners who were starting their Myanmar journey using a visa by entering there.

Now that Chiang Mai has a consulate, you could do that - get a Myanmar visa, stay a few nights then come back.

Otherwise, with Chiang Khong a mere 100km away, that might be an even better option.

I certainly hope so . I've got to cross at Mae Sai / Tachilek next month .

As I do not see any refusals of entry for people crossing with a non O yet , I too worry a bit if I will be able to do the crossing .

Bit confusing of the reports about in/-out refusals and the dislike of it by authorities , they really mean visa exemptions ,

what's not the same as having a visa , but I still go in and out the same day .....

I wish someone reports from Maesai crossing with a valid non O succesfully .

Can someone tell me how it's done at Chiang Khong these days ,can I go and return the same day ,and do they give a huge visa sticker full page

if returning back to Thailand the same day ...I wish not ,but if its the only alternative ,not much you can do is it ...

It must be hell having such uncertainty of one's future prospects in Thailand.

Isn't there a more guaranteed method?

You will not have a problem to do a crossing at Mae Sai since you have a valid visa.

Same for Chiang Kong. But you would get a full page sticker for the Lao visa on arrival.

Thanks Ubon , good news , has been almost 10 years since I did the last crossing at Mae Sai ,

Chiang Khong even longer , but prefer the Mae Sai crossing .

Isn't my run good for 90 days not also a visa run.....no visa run means no visa exempt run is it not ....

Its their writing whats confusing not so much whats is allowed or not imo....

You will get a 90 day entry when you do your border run.

When it is written as a visa run people normally mean a visa exempt entry. I prefer to call it a border run or a border hop.

The only real visa run is going to an embassy or consulate for a visa.
