Chiang Mai issues waterfall closure, as flash floods come

CHIANG MAI, 19 September 2015 (NNT) – Officials in Chiang Mai warned tourists and riverside residents on Saturday to exercise caution as heavy rains triggered flash floods in some areas.

In Mae Rim District, thunder showers caused visibility problems for motorists taking the Mae Rim-Samoeng route. Cloudbursts had increased water volume in different areas in Doi Inthanon National Park, leading to flash floods affecting waterfall locations and villages in the foothills.

Doi Inthanon National Park yesterday warned visitors to stay vigilant and ordered a temporary closure of Mae Klang Waterfal and Mae Ya Waterfall. Floods have also prompted Doi Suthep National Park to put Tat Mok Waterfall off limits to visitors for safety reasons. The orders will be lifted after the situation returns to normal.
