BANGKOK: -- The board of the Airports of Thailand Public Company is expected to consider a proposal to charge arriving and departing air passengers using six international airports a 35 baht/flight Air Passenger Processing System (APPS) or security fee at a meeting on Tuesday.

A well-informed source said that the security fee for the use of Suvarnabhumi, Don Meuang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai and Chiang Rai’s Mae Fah Luang international airports are proposed to be imposed as of December 1.

As for advance air ticket bookings before September 10, the source said that the board would also be asked to consider imposing the 35 baht/flight security fee as well.

Meanwhile, the board is expected to endorse a reshuffle involving 6-7 executives of the AoT at the same meeting on Tuesday.

Among those to be reshuffled include Mr Petch Chuncharoen, deputy director of Suvarnabhumi international airport for operations, who is expected to be appointed director of Don Meuang international airport replacing Mr Songsak Thongthaeng who is due to retire at the end of September and Mrs Chadanisa Chamnanvej, a C10-level specialist, who is expected to be appointed deputy director of Suvarnabhumi international airport for operations.

Don't they already get a 500 Baht departure fee as part of the ticket price? (it used to be collected at the airport)

How do they expect to collect an arrival fee?

Yes 500 baht departure fee levied in flight price for many years thumbsup.gif

A security fee for what , what is the aim here , what is the security fee's intention , is it for airport security , travellers security, increased security at temples or is it just a trumped up charge so they seem to be doing something when doing nothing at all, whatever, the tourists are so gullible they will still flock in , including the quality ones, just to say they have been to Siam coffee1.gif

I remember this was the case some years ago but haven't been charged it for recent international flights.

What? Just another way to scam money out of peoples pockets. Pretty sure the money will go directly into a few key figures foreign accounts.

The things airline companies/airports make up to suck people dry is nothing short of amazing. What's next? Pay for the usage of toilets on planes? Lol

I guess anything to keep people away since visitors have already paid a fee more than enough in their ticket-Price ... Another thai scam ... blink.png

Whats next ... : Toilet fee, AC fee, bad service fee etc. etc. Stay away from here, its not worth it ...

Got some synchronicity going on there Ted/Flash wink.png

Correct, the 500 Baht fee was absorbed into the ticket price some time back. However since then we've had several regime changes and presumably the officials that go with them, so I'd imagine it's a new money making scam scheme dreamt up by someone relatively new to the department. Another question would be what security service do Thai airports provide that no other country does to warrant an additional charge?

I believe the fee was increased from 500b to 700b at least 5 years ago....I remember the machines at Don Muang where you would purchase for 500b before airlines started to include in ticket price.

If AOT is managed half as badly as THAI you can just imagine !

They introduced a Passenger Facility Fee at Durham Tees Valley Airport £6 for adults, £2 for children. It's not included in the fare, you pay at a Vending Machine, exact money, no change at the Airport before going through security, little wonder the airport is 'dying on its feet'.
