Hi Thai Visa People,

I have read that i can convert my Visa Exemption to a Non-Imm O based on Marriage in Bangkok without leaving the country. Can anyone describe the process and what documentation i will require? How much it costs? Where to go what to do etc, etc, ?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Cheers,

You must have 15 days remaining on your entry to apply for a 90 day non immigrant visa entry and it will take 2 trips to immigration to get the visa/entry stamps.

You must have all the documents required for an extension of stay based upon marriage. You will need to have 400k baht in the bank or proof of 40k baht income.

The fee for a non immigrant visa application is 2000 baht.

You do it at Chaeng Wattana immigration.

Thanks for the information. I have had the 400K Baht in the bank for only 35 days not the 60 days required for the extension of stay. Does this make me ineligible to apply for this?

For extension of stay.

Paperwork:

1. Two application forms T.M. 7 with two photographs size 4x6 cm. and Visa Fee 1900.-Baht
2. Copy Marriage Certificate
3. Copy Kor Ror 2 from amphur office, marriage registry (not older than six months, even if marriage certificate is under 6 months old)
4. Child's birth certificate (if any)
5. Copy wife’s house registration (first page showing address and the page showing her details)
6. Copy wife’s identity card
7. Copy passport (all pages with stamps), non-Im visa, arrival card.
8. Interview the husband and wife for confirming status of husband and wife
9. Map to residency (names of roads and house marked in Thai and GPS coordinates)
10. 3 Pictures, one showing you outside the house with wife and house number visible, One in bedroom, One showing time relaxing.
11. Copy house book from residence (signed by owner and a signed copy of their ID Card, as this may not be the wife in some cases) or rental contract.
12: Copy of the letter from the MFA showing you were able to marry

With money in bank option.
1. Letters from your bank same day or day before stating bank records, and a transaction list for the past two months.
2. Bank account must be in Husbands name, joint accounts will not qualify.
3. Letter from bank must show transaction during previous two months.

With Income in Thailand option

Awesome thanks.

If i have a copy of the Rental Contract do i still need a signed copy of the of the owners ID card?

Some immigration offices require the rental contract and a copy of the owner's ID and house book.

Hi again, Letter from the MFA showing we were able to marry. I don't remember getting this document. What does it look like and how can i get it ???

Thanks again for your help

It is the "affirmation of freedom to marry" which you obtained from your Embassy , had translated and which was then certified by the MFA.

The MFA did not provide a letter showing you were able to marry.

If you have lost or never kept a copy of the affirmation the Amphur where you got married may be able to assist in providing a copy of the document you must have given at the time of the marriage.

Hi Guys,

I went to Chaeng Wattana immigration yesterday to apply for the Non-O as discussed above and there were a few differences that i thought i would let you know about for future reference.

1. They required a form TM 87 not the form TM 7 as mentioned above (as I now understand it the TM7 is for 1 year extension after you have received the initial Non-O visa the TM87 is for the single entry 90 day Non-O visa).

2. I went to the bank to get the letter of Proof of Funds however they also requested an updated Bankbook copy where i had deposited or withdrawn an amount of money within the last day or two to show the current balance (they wanted this as well as the letter, I didn't have it so they requested me to bring it when i when to pick up my visa in two weeks time).

3. They didn't ask for a copy of the map to my residence however i was happy to have it with me and when i apply for the 12 month extension in the next few months i will be sure to have it with me again.

I also when to the Amphur office where i was married and picked up the "affirmation of freedom to marry" without any issues. Thanks again for your advice here.

Thanks so much for all your help you guys here at Thaivisa rock. Ill post another update when i go to pick up the visa in a few weeks time.

Cheers,

Is this process also similar for converting a non-B visa (extension) to a Non-O (based on marriage). Can it all be done without leaving the country?

Thanks

It would not be a conversion.

t would be changing the reason for your extension of stay from working to one based upon marriage to a Thai,

You should contact your local immigration office to see it they will do it.

If they agree you would need a termination letter from your employer to cancel you current extension and then you could apply for the extension based upon marriage. You would need all the documents and financial proof required to apply for the extension.

Very interesting, I will be needing to do the same shortly, do you need to make an appointment at the immigration office or just turn up

Hello again.

One more thing. I read that to get the 90 day visa (non O), the copy of the wife's passport has to be in the new married man's name. Is this true? Does anyone have experience of this? Thanks

False

Absolutely not true. Immigration would never ask to see a Thai wife's passport.

Perhaps confusion between a passport and house book. But even then her name would not have to be changed just an update showing she is married.

Hi Guys,

Me again reporting back after my second visit to immigration to get the result of my visa conversion application from visa exemption on arrival to non-o marriage.

SUCCESS - No troubles at all. 90 days Non-O Marriage Visa stamp is now in my passport.

I did take with me an updated copy of my bankbook and the original as requested in my first visit. The staff there were lovely and polite. I arrived about 11am and had to wait an hour for the result.

Thanks so much for all your help. You guys at Thaivisa are awesome and super helpful.

So just to confirm if i now want to change this to a 1 year extension i have to do it in the last 30 days of this current visa? Turn up again with all the same paperwork all over again and basically do it all again but this time with the money in the bank for 3 months?

Please confirm.

Cheers,

You can apply for the extension during the last 30 days of the 90 entry you have.

Same paperwork. The money only has to be in the bank for 2 months for an extension based upon marriage.

I have a question regarding the name(s) on the bank book. Some people say that the bank account has to be in the applicant's name only. If there is a joint bank account with the wife it will not be accepted. Can anyone throw any light on this please?

Why I read in some posts that the 400k in bank is only needed for the extension?

So which one is true now, I need it right from the start when I want to get the visa/permission to stay for the first time or when going for the extension after one year?

If you get a single entry non-o visa from an embassy or consulate you will not need to show financial proof to get it at most embassies and consulates. Then you would only need it to apply for the extension.

If you don't have a non-o visa and have to covert a visa exempt or tourist visa entry to a non immigrant visa at Bangkok immigration you will have to show the financial proof in order to get it. If you are using the 400k baht in the bank option it only has to be in bank on the date of application for the visa and then for 2 months when you apply for the extension.

Thanks Joe.

So no need to panic on the 90 day visa - you have at least 2 months from arrival to get the money in the bank sorted.
