Wissanu mum on amount to be sought in Yingluck case

BANGKOK: -- DEPUTY Prime Minister Wissanu Kreangam has declined to confirm the authorities will seek Bt500 billion in damages from former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her former ministers over her then government's handling of the rice-pledging scheme.

The case could be fought in court for some time before the amount could be settled, he said.

The deputy PM has assigned two fact-finding panels to determine any civil liability incurred by Yingluck and the exministers including former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom.

The panels are scheduled to submit their results by the end of the month for Prime Minister Prayut Chanocha to review.

Nothing but a blatent attempt to drive another Shin into the ground where eventually she will get so frustrated with the continual action against her that she will end up seeking a better life else where in a country that is just and reasonable.

The she will then be referred to as another fugitive just like her brother and the junta lovers will be all over the same reteric.

The Thai people need to stand up for themselves, remove the military to the position where they belong, as civil servants and stop allowing these ibaciles to control their lives and futures based on what is good for the military and their cronies.

Thailand will never have a stable government while the military believe they have supreme power above elected government. It is in their interests to destabilize any democractic government and to keep both sides of politics at war with each other.

In the current situation with preparation for a new constitution and election, everyone excluding those pro military extremists know the only guaranteed future event will be just another military coup based on some warm and fuzzy reteric that will never occur.

Thailand could have been a major player in Asia but it never ever will. The majority of Thai people could presently be enjoying a much greater quality of life and they can thank the military for this total failure.

Battle tipped over damages sought for rice scheme

THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- DEPUTY PRIME Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam has declined to confirm the authorities will seek Bt500 billion in damages from former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra and a handful of top officials over her government's rice-pledging scheme.

The case could be fought in court for some time before the amount could be settled, he said.

The deputy PM has assigned two fact-finding panels to determine any civil liability incurred by Yingluck and her former ministers including ex-commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom.

The panels are scheduled to submit their results by the end of the month for Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha to review.

The case is expected to go through the Administrative Court if Yingluck counter-sues the government.

It is the third action carried out against Yingluck and the ex-ministers. The first resulted in her impeachment and the second involves a criminal lawsuit now before the Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Political Officer Holders.

Wissanu said in principle a plaintiff lodges an inflated damages claim because if the amount sought was lower than the real damages awarded, the plaintiff could not seek the shortfall.

He said the judiciary was the party which would give fairness to everyone involved and the real amount to be paid in this case would eventually be determined.

Yingluck could fight against the government's authority to charge her and she could fight the damages claim, which could result in a lengthy process, he said.

"The she will then be referred to as another fugitive just like her brother and the junta lovers will be all over the same reteric." (rhetoric)

Yingluck has far more testicular fortitude than her brother Thaksin. She has stood her ground and held her head up while the storm around her raged.

She may be guilty as charged, but if, and only if ,she ever decided to leave her homeland (which I cannot see happening), as I doubt very much whether she would ever see the inside of any detention center, she would not be referred to as a fugitive.

She would merely be a very wealthy woman seeking a better life away from her own country, due to political harassment.

She has made no attempt to flee the justice system as did her cowardly brother. He is not in "self-imposed exile, he's a fugitive.

I am not a Yingluck fan, it's just the way I see it.

Seems like any financial considerations here could safely be settled under the table outside of any public forum.

No use bothering the common folk with a whole stack of conflicting stories and confusing numbers.

Flagship £1bn youth unemployment scheme branded a failure.

How about this one.

NHS IT system one of 'worst fiascos ever', say MPs.

Taxpayers face a rising, multi-billion pound bill for a failed government IT project, MPs have said.A report by the influential Public Accounts Committee (PAC) concluded an attempt to upgrade NHS computer systems in England ended up becoming one of the "worst and most expensive contracting fiascos" in public sector history.

Ministers initially put the costs of the NHS scheme's failure at £6.4bn.Officials later revised the total to £9.8bn, but the PAC said this latest estimate failed to include a price for terminating a contract with Fujitsu to provide care records systems and other future costs.

I could list dozens of failed schemes by governments of various countries but I think you get the point.

Should the politicians involved in these schemes while trying to help the unemployed or the failed IT project be forced to pay back taxpayer money? How is this any different than trying to help the farmers in this country.

I await the day that Thailand is controlled /run by a group of honest, intelligent people , elected by the majority of the voters who go to to the polls. the votes cast for canidates will be determined by those seeking election as to their proposed plans , how they will bhe frinanced, controlled, monitered and prove useful to the majority of the population.

You know that old fashion idea ''of the people, by the people, for the people'' The peo0ple and civil servents refer to Thailand as our country, with true pride in what can be accomplished thru honest action instead of whose the most devious, wealthy, well conected, etc.

To quote another person of a vision which many deemed impossible at that time. ''I have a dream''

What does his mother have to do with it?

This will end up a bit like Kasits interpol non event. They won't go after her financially because when the Shins win the next election they will chase down every member of the junta who has nicked a paper clip from their position, let alone a massed hundreds of millions as a soldier.....

Yingluck drag it through the courts until the tide turns.. and turn it will... then sue them for wasting tax payers money

Oh the irony.

Yingluck suing anyone else for wasting tax payers money.

The Prime Minister, Defense Minister, Chair of the Rice policy committee - three nice little earners and not one ounce of real work. Too busy on all those fully expense trips.

Sill, she did get jobs for lots of the family.

It will never happen until there is a robust justice system and the law is enforced impartially to all.

The Shiniwattras and their various aligned regional barons have has little interest in establishing that as do the current government and their allies.

Elections will simply return one or the other gang of self interested above the law elites.

If they were serious about reform Thaksin, Red Bull boy would face extradition requests for starters. But money trumps everything so nothing will change.

It hasn't happened since 1932 under elected or non elected governments.

Why are you assuming that they will win the next election?

They may not, and I for one would not even put 20 baht on any election result in Thailand.

If you are able to see into the future what will be the number of the next winning lottery ticket?

I would say they have the best chance of the parties. The statistics are in their favour. Their support is pretty solid.

Why would all of a sudden their regional support drop massively.

You can keep hoping for an Abhisit victory but remember the only way he got in last time it needed the army to have a quick chat with newin. U think abhisit can win? How?

Of course, this might be what u mean. Everyone votes with Mps telling everyone they are going with ptp but they have their fingers crossed and run off with abhisit.

Simply because this had nothing to do with helping 'poor' farmers many of whom lost their livelihoods over this scam. It had more to do with removing rice from the tables of the poor by causing a world inflation to the price of rice. This was Thaksin playing with a staple commodity and looking to profit on the increased price once the Thai rice was released to market. Off course this scam backfired. It was a scam in the manner of all the scams that Thaksin has dreamed up over the years. More than a million farmers were left unpaid for more than six months causing some extreme hardship - the junta paid the farmers from Government funds whilst the rice was either stolen or left rotting in warehouses. Make no mistake, this scam was intended to be a source of profit for the Shins and a way of paying off their key supporters (ie traders in various localities) without putting his hands in his own pocket.

Where does your "information" come from ??

Please enlighten us.

The last elected government could not pay the farmers because commercial banks withdrew support knowing that Suthep and Co ( including strange colour uniforms) were about to bring down a properly and duly elected and accountable government.

To the chagrin of a majority of the electorate.

Please explain how the PM and her extended family personally benefited.

Additionally please comment on how and why many of the pre coup, previously condemned "Shin" policies are now being implemented by the current administration.
