Jet-skis to rule roost for high season
Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- Jet-skis will continue to offer their services on Phuket beaches this high season, Phuket Governor Nisit Jansomwong confirmed yesterday.

“We will be implementing the same zones as last year to separate jet-skis and swimmers to ensure everyone’s safety,” Governor Nisit said. “I am aware that a lot of people do not want jet-skis on our beaches, as they have caused many issues in the past. However, some tourists still expect to be able to partake in this extreme sport while on holiday in Phuket.”

Tourists’ desire to engage in the marine activity has long been touted as the reason to have jet-skis. However, a poll that ran for four weeks earlier this year on the Phuket Gazette website saw a staggering 75% of all respondents – including tourists – vote that jet-skis have no place anywhere on any Phuket beach.

The poll, which received 6,362 votes, including nearly 3,000 tourists asked: ‘Should jet-ski operators be allowed to operate on Phuket’s beaches?’

Only 5% of the tourists who took part in the poll voted, ‘Yes, they provide an activity that many tourists enjoy’, while a further 18% called for better regulation.

Someone needs to check the head guy of Marine 5 bank accounts seeing as he says he's the one that's in charge of them. I've heard 1K/day per ski to keep operating, maybe just a rumour, or maybe the reason why after 15 "last chances" they're going stronger than ever and taking over more of the beach with impunity. Nice job pal!

It appears old gov does not keep up on what the majority interviewed expressed. its just too bad that that the military were as determined to clean Thailand of corruption and those involved as the latter are determined to continue the old ways of corruption, thuggery, theft, physical assult and murder to demonstrate their complete disregard for lawful authority and illegal activity.

Mockery, mooning and to ignore authority seems to be the favorite passtime of the inhabitants of what is refered to by many as one of the cesspools of Thailad.

That's the while problem here.... a local Governor together with the local jet ski Maffia have more power than the voice of all the foreign envoys together...

Shows you the respect Thai's have for the international community and the tourists that bring a large part of the GDP. Not!!!

Talk about exposing how the corrupt operate .......

Here you have a issue that 75% of tourists surveyed said they believe Phuket doesn't need it .... they say NO !!

so it's an overwhelming majority of the income producing tourists that say no and yet this guy even though he knows and would admit that Phuket's tourism is number 1 priority ... yet he will go against that common sense and allow the opposing.

If that isn't corruption then I don't know what is ......whistling.gif

Just so those of you that don't live here understand, the Governors that are here for one year are really at the mercy of the local thugs. In years past high ranking officials that have transferred in have been told " We know where you live and where you kids go to school" . so the old saying of "silver or lead", is probably pretty appropriate here. "Plata o plomo". Most everyone will choose plata.

The solution is pretty easy. Let the Army solve it between 2 Governors: when the old one is out and the new one not yet in. How to solve? Arrest all those tugs (which for sure are well known) charge them with extortion, damage to the Kingdom's tourism industry, theft, violence and more and transfer them to Bangkok to be judged. Confiscate their jet ski's and crush them like they do with illegal CD's...

Problem solved, forever :)

This is what needs to be done. Build a pontoon about 1klm offshore & transport those who want to use jetski's to the pontoon via a boat. Tehy can then make all the noise & the only risk is that those, using them will run into each other & not into families who want a nice quiet day at the beach to relax & enjoy swimming.

In most countries jetski users need to be licenced which in Australia is different to a boat licence & requires a further 2 days of testing & exams after you gain your boat licence.

No sympathy from me for anyone stupid enough to hire one of those objectionable machines.

Jet-skis are a significant part of the tourism mafia in Phuket and Pattaya.

The thugs who control the beach and of course the police all get their cut. I wouldn't doubt if city officials also have a finger in the pie.

Welcome to Thailand.

If a dumb Aussie or Russian wants to part with 50,000 baht thats his problem.

Do you know that the governor's office didn't do that poll and that there was no connection or consultation between that office and The

Phuket Gazette's private poll?

Did you know that even without that poll the governor's office realize the majority of tourists don't want the jet ski's .... they are going ahead with them because of kick backs.

but but but but but this time!

last time they said!

the news conference!

the army! the navy! the marines! Dear god! Can nothing stop it?!?

THE THING THAT COULDN'T DIE!

"Can nothing stop it?!?" - there's very little hope of cleaning Phuket up now.

The Thai military got here and saw how lucrative the "tea money" was, across many sectors in tourism, and decided they wanted to control it, rather than eradicate it.
