Prayut claims success in New York trip

Guys

One would expect to see a photo of the UN Secretary General standing beside the PM. After all, Moon had to play the convivial host with all the attendees! And I'm quite sure some of these would have been more unsavoury than the Thai PM.

As for Obama, well maybe it was the PM avoiding him rather than the other way around.

After all, the junta has been quite critical of the US for not endorsing the coup. So, it would be hypocritical of the PM to seek out a photo opportunity!

Anyhow, in the PM's own words (from his UN speech - with some unacknowledged help from Alice Morse Earle), "What we do today will become tomorrow's history". The PM's visit to the UN (for what it was worth or what it may have achieved), is now history!

But, Thailand's real history is about to be shaped by CDC MkII. This is where the real success (or failure) of the PM's efforts will be played out, and where our attention now needs to focus.

A little tired of all these ex-pats remarks and always bashing Thai or Thailand when many live here :-(

Maybe many of you should go back to your own country, if you have one? :-)

Not "a little" but VERY tired of brainless fools parroting the 'if you don't like it' garbage that never contributed to any discussion ever, other than being anti-freedom of expression, something that almost always goes over the heads of these twerps.

If he doesn't like what he reads on the forum he shouldn't come here, let alone post here, according to his own dim-witted thinking, another irony sailing way over his head.

If you consider that some deals were made with Fiji and Equatorial Guinea....

Thais would call this "Yok Hang" or to beat your own drum.

Don't ya know he was being humble. lol He didn't mention the advice he gave to other world leaders when they sought out his well respected input. They wanted him to be their full time adviser, but he's too busy fixing Thailand. and establishing a an internet firewall to protect Thai people.

I am not Thai bashing nor Thailand bashing. My ire is directed in defence of democracy.

Perhaps due to the country from which I am and the era in which I was born, I abhor the military overturning elected governments, ruling by threats, muzzling the press, suppressing citizens' freedoms.

My stance started with protesting the South American dictator General Pinochet and continued to Idi Amin's rise, and beyond.

And it's not just the military - e.g. if an extremist religious theocracy in a (M.E.) country were to overturn the elected govt, I would also oppose that too.

"The world leaders have confidence in Thailand and were looking forward to seeing how the government would drive the country forward, the PM said."

And the rest of us are looking forward to when he will start to drive the country forward. When ever you are ready PM in your own time, no rush.

Strange how I can't find one single article, paragraph, sentence, phrase or word on the whole of the internet to substantiate his claim that he met president Obama. Hmmm. Should we take him for his word?

There will be no coup!

I do not want to be PM!

I don't think soooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

In one of the PM visits NY topic someone poster a phto with Pres. Obama and PM Prayut shaking hands. As some poster remarked following, PM Prayut was the last in line to shake hands. You must have missed that.

Seems it's from theNation, two days ago

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/breakingnews/Prayut-pledges-Thais-to-UN-boost-in-peacekeeping-w-30269783.html

It would appear that I did. Thanks for clarifying.

I think criticising Thai-bashing is valid at times. But bashing the PM, as he was not chosen by the people of Thailand, doesn't fit.

So where is the picture of Prayut and Obama shaking hands? Surely if he had met the US president he would have covered that in the Thai press at the time as he did with Banki Moon.

I suspect BS all the way,, the only thing the President of the US would say to Prayut is "when is power being returned to a democratically elected government?"

He has no international influence, he is just a soldier who has appointed himself as PM.

Thailand is seen as a holiday destination currently under military rule, thats it,,

As for the President being impressed with his plans,, please,,, give me a break.

Have you read 'Burmese Days' by George Orwell ? It was first published in 1934 and as far as the attitude of expats towards the locals is concerned, nothing much seems to have changed. They can't have them whipped or put in jail for no reason or even shot at any more, but it seems that many of them bitterly regret that era.

The 'go back to your country' argument makes perfect sense, of course, and it's been used to the point of exhaustion on this Forum and others. Thais are also beginning to say it a lot, which does not augure well for our future here.

Mind you, I don't know where you come from, but I can assure you that in most European countries, people also spend a lot of time bashing their own governments, administrations, system, companies, etc. Perhaps they're just letting out the steam. Here, however, there is an added element of disdain, fuelled by a stinky superiority complex, and that's what makes this constant Thai-bashing so irritating (and pathetic). Here's a little anecdote which you might know already, but if you don't, I'm sure you will appreciate its full implications :

Someone once asked Gandhi why he was so utterly convinced that, sooner or later, the Indians would succed in sending the British back home. With a cheeky smile Gandhi answered :

- Because of one major difference : you see, the British despise the Indians, and the Indians are fully aware of that. On the other hand, the Indians despise the British even more, but the British don't have a clue.

That, I guess, is what the 'superiority complex' is all about.

You're "a little tired". That is so sad.

The PM Prayuth Chan o cha did as he was expected to do.

Attend the UN General assembly, speak briefly at the Assembly, mingle with President Obama and President Xi Jinping as he did both at the UN and at a couple of reception parties.

I am sure the world powers and the UN General Assembly would certainly rather it be him attending than any previous controversial PM.

What did some on here expect him to do .... ?? cartwheels in the foyer !! whistling.gif

' He added that he had clarified them that Thai government is following the road map announced after the coup.'

"According to Thainess principles, there must be a confusion before election", he said. "Since the previous misunderstood draft was rejected, the new misunderstanding is needed, followed by obfuscation and platitude adjustments", he added.

"I am sure the world powers and the UN General Assembly would certainly rather it be him attending than any previous controversial PM. "

I'm pretty sure that is BS. You see, in some parts of the world they actually care if a leader is elected or....well, "self elected".

so you would sooner go back to the dismal days of protests every day blocking roads & buildings, explosions, security non-existant , fighting tit for tat between yellow and red shirts.

You didn't mind that ???

huh !!

I'm glad the military are in charge, at least there is some form of decent governance in place.

Most Thais are happy with things now as opposed to the previous controversial PM... which everyone knows was a sham.

To those foreigner who whinge and complain and the cry babies .....

they can always go back home ! whistling.gif

but you have your thoughts and opinion and i respect that.

Wow, what an intelligent statement, never heard that before! I guess you were unhappy living here (assuming you do) under the different elected governments and complained about it. So why didn't you go home?
