Free to kill children----------you put your finger on it neversure........................coffee1.gif

Oh instead of the usual "Cheers......you could have changed it to .........RIP

He also said, "Some things are worth dying for and the members of this militia know that."

Kind of ironic when you think about. "I'll die for the right to own a gun to protect myself with"

Kind of sad, too. "I'll die for the right to have guns freely and in abundance so that nutters can mass kill students"

As an outsider I think it's shocking that the gun lobbyists have more say on this subject than Obama and his administration. Obama is right that the time is long past that something should be done and I'm sure that many understand his frustration. No other developed country is like this.

Sadly I expect in the not too distant future, I will be trying to explain to my Khmer wife why this happens in a developed country.

I could harp on with my opinion, but no point doing so. If the most powerful man in the world is stymied......

Now we will hear the predictable ... but guns are in the constitution. Yeah for a militia. Not for shooting up schools.

Now we will hear the predictable - "militia".

The US Supreme Court has ruled repeatedly that the founders meant the citizens when they said "militia" in the Constitution. They didn't say army or navy, you know. A militia of citizens is necessary to maintain a free people, even against a government.

It was this militia that Paul Revere was part of. It was this militia that drove the King of England and his Redcoats off US soil. It was this militia that saw to it that the USA had it's freedom and autonomy. It was this militia that had the Tea Party in Boston Harbor.

Now many of us (about 100 million of us) look at places like the ME and the spillover into Europe and tell ourselves that shit isn't going to happen in our neighborhoods. That's true for now and for 100 years from now.

Some things are worth dying for and the members of this militia know that. Unfortunately, too many in the world have forgotten that except that our enemies haven't forgotten.

Freedom isn't free.

Cheers.

Yes this militia argument might have been relevant hundreds of years ago when everyone had muskets including the military.

Unfortunately that is not the world we live in anymore. Unless the citizens are allowed and able to arm themselves with tanks and stealth aircraft then they really will not have much of a chance against todays military. Do you agree with that?

Also note this was an amendment to your constitution. Therefore by it's very definition, it could and should be amended again to reflect the world we live in now.

I am all for people having the right to have a gun in their home for protection but I do not agree with citizens walking around with concealed or non concealed firearms in public.

There must also be stringent laws in place for those who want to own a gun at home. There should be in depth background checks (which in many cases are not allowed now because of laws anonymously added into other unrelated laws by the NRA bribing corrupt congressmen), and restrictions on the types of firearms allowed to be owned (you don't need an assault rifle with a 50 round clip or and RPG for home protection).

This will not end gun deaths, nothing ever will, but this will drastically reduce the deaths.

Many nutters say they have a right to bare arms, what about the majority of the populations right to not be shot by a nutter with a gun?

Guns were banned many years ago in the UK (except "some' shot gun owners), it didn't stop those who want to shoot folk from finding a gun.

And how many gun deaths do they have per year compared with the USA? Just a fraction so obviously it worked!! Thx for helping

It seems somehow I've missed the weekly mass shooting reports coming from the UK .

There isn't one chance in hell that members of the US military would turn on their own countrymen, especially over guns. They own guns too and they are an all volunteer military. They are our friends and neighbors.

As for the Constitution, it must be the solid foundation that keeps a country from being another Thailand. The Constitution is very hard to amend for a reason.

The Supreme Court looks first at its historical rulings to get a sense of what the Constitution meant historically. That's where they want to be. They don't want to come up with "new meanings" for it. That's not what it's for.

Did no one wonder why no US politician runs on a platform of getting rid of guns? Well? It's because no one could get elected on that platform against 100 million adult Americans who own guns and who vote. They may talk about getting rid of certain types of guns but they can't get the support for it. Or they may talk about more registration and so on, but no one is getting rid of guns.

No one.

You have to wait a few more years until your invaders finish out-breeding you and raise a generation of people who hate you enough to kill you. Then your children will be begging for guns, but too late.

Cheers.

How do you cope in Thailand without a gun?

If you take out the Hispanic population, which are by the way not the group that does the shootings, here are far more immigrants in Europe than in the US so what's your point?

It was a gun free zone, and like most of these places that makes them a turkey shoot. Even the security guards were unarmed.

Untrue. A 2011 court ruling made it impermissible to ban guns on public universities. Oregon University did not appeal the decision. The university bans guns at certain events, like sporting events, but even them you can still carry if you get permission from the university.

...................

But....the entire "militia" case is based on protecting yourselves from the government if need be.

If the military won't fight against the citizens, who do the citizens need guns against? Kentucky County clerks? Doddering senators? Rich guys with odd hair?

Yes of course...... if every student in the school had been carrying an assault rifle then it couldn't have happened... blah blah blah it was their own fault they got killed for not defending themselves properly.

Guns don't kill people blah blah blah

If, instead of 3 handguns and a rifle, he had been armed with a knife or a baseball bat he could just as easily have killed so many innocent people in such a short space of time..........

Gun laws haven't changed in 100 years. And guns were just as powerful 100 years ago as they are today. So how can anyone come to the conclusion that guns are now all of a sudden the problem?

These often unfortunately happen at schools and colleges, but never at banks, or police stations or airports. Kind of strange don't you think? The question gun controlists never want to ask is why are more school shootings now than ever before? Gun Free zones is one obvious answer.

Guns were as powerful as 100 years ago?

Please tell me about many sub rifles machine guns they had with their muskets ?

The answer to your last question is simple : it is easier and easier for disturbed people to get guns.. And lot of teenagers are temporarly or not.

The question the pro guns never answer to is : why so many shooting in USA and not so much in europe? Why since Australia restricted gun there was not any mass shooting?

Thompson sub machine gun invented 105 years ago 600 rounds per minute.

Browning Automatic rifle invented 105 years ago 600 rounds per minute.

Any other questions?

No, but it sure does make it much harder.

So in the UK a Muslim guy chops off soldiers heads with a knife and in the US a Muslim guy shoots people. Do you find anything in common with these two events?

You're actually right. The way our system of government works, major gun control legislation will never fly. I don't think even a socialist like Bernie Sanders as President would be able to do anything. It's so much a part of America these days that it would take....Lordy, something like an authoritarian government to do it.

So it'll just keep happening. Over and over again. And in more audacious ways. Schools? Not a big deal anymore, go into a Wal-Mart and take out 100. Churches? Done that. Go to Madison Square Garden and take out 200. Movie theater or military base? Ho-hum. Go to the beach during spring break and take out 150. That's right all of you disenfranchised and lonely Americans! You're a nobody now. Kill a few dozen innocent people and you'll be famous!

Yes, this is the America that we want.

One hundred years ago was 1915. You didn't use muskets. You even had autos like the Browning BAR in 1918.

School shooting suspect named as Chris Harper Mercer, 26

606x341_314510.jpg

ROSEBURG: -- Authorities in the US have named the suspect in the latest school shooting. Twenty-six year old Chris Harper Mercer is alleged to have opened fire at a community college in the state of Oregon killing nine people and wounding seven others.

Authorities were trying to work out the gunman’s motives. One witness said the he lined people up and asked if they were Christian, according to a report in NR Today. If they said yes, they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs, according to the New York Post.

US President Barack Obama, speaking just hours after the rampage, said the mass killing should move Americans to demand greater gun control from elected officials.

“Somehow this has become routine,” a visibly angry Obama said. “The reporting is routine. My response, here at this podium, ends up being routine. The conversation in the aftermath of it: we have become numb to this… It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.”

Think it was Hungerford, bit after that they took my firearms license off me and of my sporting chums. BUT, firearms are out there in the UK, this is my point, if a nutter wants to do a lot of naughty stuff in the UK it is possible. Same as blokes found explosives to blow up a bus full of folk.

You got it right when you said "possible".

When you have a mass shooting a day in the US, the word becomes "probable".
