UN desperately seeking solution to refugee crisis

NEW YORK: -- As the world faces its worst refugee crisis since World War II UN Secretary General Ban-Ki Moon has convened a meeting on migration and refugee movements on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Mr Ban called for an end to prejudice and scaremongering and demanded greater diplomatic efforts to end the war in Syria.

Hungary has been in spotlight as thousands of asylum seekers have poured across its borders.

The country’s prime minister Viktor Orbán believes the influx bodes ill for Europe: “At the Hungarian borders, they are coming from Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and most recently from the Sub-Saharan region. Let me make it absolutely clear, Europe will not be able to carry this burden on her own. If there is no change in the current trend, Europe will be destabilised.”

Turkey’s border with Syria is alive with people fleeing the conflict.

Turkish Prime Minister addressed the meeting Ahmet Davutoğlu:“The total number of Syrians in Turkey is now over 2 million. In camps, we are hosting close to 260,000 Syrians. In some Turkish cities on the border, now Syrians are more than Turks. In Kilis, for example, the percentage of Syrians are 54 percent, and Turks became minority.”

Despite the general concern the UN high commissioner for refugees Antonio Guterres has called for $4bn to deal with the crisis, so only 40 percent of the total has been reached.

Put them on an island .. Germany, France & UK each put up 20 billion for 2 years for cheap prefab housing structures, schools, hospitals, factories, farms, renewable energy plants, water, sewer, garbage, industries etc ....

make 2 or three cities with 2-4 mil population, assist them for two years then the island goes self sufficient.

They all work to produce food, water, electricity ........ and survive. smile.png

Correct me if mistaken but isn't Ban-Ki Moon of Korean descent?

Why don't I hear him every bloody day on the North Korea issues?

As it is now - it is only Israel, Arabs, Syrians... What about his own people?

Hey, steven!

Are you stupid or just pretending?

- Who is going to pay the benefits?

- Who are they going to fight against?

- Who are they going to convert on this island?

- Who will provide this Island ?

- Do you mean they will have to work for ever? And their kids too?

- And in this scenario when they survive - how does it promote Islam?

No, no, you must be joking!tongue.png

Arrest people that engage in violent protests and check if they have some empathy for refugees.

Send the Nazis (the ones with no empathy) to collect landmines in Asia and Africa. You will get empty flats and jobs for refugees then.

Make clear that Nazis that join the IS run a high risk of being killed.

When Assad is gone all efforts can be concentrated on the destruction of ISIS, all Syrians can go back home and start a new country.

I know simple thinking, but that is what is needed at times.

We need strong leadership of the UN.

Had the UN read Huntington's Clash of civilizations and heeded its conclusions there would be no crisis to solve. As it is multiculturalists did the exact opposite and at a speed intended to make their ideology a fait accompli. There are solutions to the current crisis, but none of them are either liberal or painless.

Had there been no Western or Soviet weapons in the Middle East therest would not be a refugee crisis like it is.

Samuel P Huntington's "analysis" is just a bad trial to hide imperialism behind a self-constructed clash of other religions. Impossible to use such propaganda as a handbook for the UN.

Because he is not representing Korea, he is head of the UN.

If you dont think the Syrian crisis is important enough to be discussed at a UN meeting by the head of the UN then im afraid you've lost the plot.

The UN will do what the UN does- wring it's collective hands and ask people to be nice to each other, but it will be ignored as always.

Couldn't stop Rawanda, couldn't stop Sebrenica, can't stop anything at all, and got fooled by GW's BS on Iraq. Why is the UN even involved in this sort of thing? Should just be a talking shop and provide aid. Stop pretending it is capable of changing anything.

If Assad goes, all the different factions will fight each other to try and be the top dog. Anyway, Iran will be running Syria after Assad goes.

What is needed is to create a safe zone on the border for the refugees to stay in.
