Prayut to visit US again early next year
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said after his return from the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 70) in New York that he would make a trip to the United States again in February or March next year.

The premier did not reveal what would be the main propose for the trip.

Prayut recounted that he and US President Barack Obama greeted each other and the US president congratulated him.

Prayut met Obama last time at Asia Pacific Economics forum in Beijing last November.

However, Prayut played down the significance of the meeting in New York, saying it was a just diplomatic protocol and he had no special issues to discuss with Obama apart from talking about friendly bilateral ties as the two countries have been long time friends.

Prayut previously revealed that he had forged an understanding with the US government and American business associations, when he met some of their representatives during the sideline events.

"After my return from UNGA, my heart is not bigger than it always is" said Prayut, adding that he made the US trip for the country.

"I always work for the country and have confidence in my work. I say what I do, and never talk bad about the country", he said.

Prayut said he would also make a series of trips to campaign for a seat in the UN Security Council.

During the press conference, Prayut said he had an opportunity to clarify to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon about the summons of the government’s opponents that the UN chief was concerned about.

He told Ban Ki-moon that the summoned people were called just for talks and warnings, and no tortures were carried out against them at all.

Asked whether international community would understand Thailand better, he said, it's up to them. He just tried to show them his sincerity.

Predictably Prayut and Obama are on great terms especially when there is so many business opportunities hinging on this mutually beneficial relationship.

It is certainly encouraging signs to see as well that Prayut has fostered such strong relations with America and China at the same time with both clamouring to strengthen these business opportunities.

The cherry on the cake is the acknowledgement from Ki-Moon that Prayut restored peace in Thailand. This certainly followed the UN-Fiji coup narrative between Ki-Moon and the Fiji coup leader Frank Bainimarama where Ki-Moon thanked Frank for returning democracy to the people and ironically Frank was the PM voted in by the people. (Good luck Prayut)

All good news and the democratic reform steam ship is seemingly unsinkable. Lets hope there are no bombs or unexplained fires to sink it!!

"The premier did not reveal what would be the main propose for the trip."

Actually he got invited by the A.C.E. next year at Orlando, 7-11 march 2016. The W.C.A will hold his annual convention.

The A.C.E is a huge american association and they were quite impress by Uncle Too and his skills. Actually he might get a reward there.

djjamie is off in fantasy-land again.

Even Prayut and his spin team didn't claim anything as absurd as Obama and Prayut being on great terms. There was the routine "grip and grin" photo op and nothing else.

The U.S. doesn't break off relations with Thailand every time there is a military government and restore them again after elections, they would be closing and opening embassies so often staff would spend more time packing and unpacking than anything else. However relations are definitely better when there is an elected government.

The democratic reform steam ship is still tied to dock, assuming it hasn't been deliberately scuttled.

I thought that was 'sarcasm' at it's very best.

Lighten up, boys. Nobody's that ignorant (particularly on this forum).

Wow, all this rosiness was gleaned from the article ? Not sure if UN agrees with rounding up critics and giving them an "attitude adjustment" . You sound like a government shill.

From a photo of a simple handshake you assume that Obama and Prayut are on great terms.
