Hi guys, hope you can help. I am renewing my 1yr visa(retirement) this month and have a letter from my Embassy which shows the pension l receive. Therefore l only require approx 150,000 baht to show and not 800,000. My wife's visa will be renewed in Feb 16, l have been told that the easiest way to get around the issue of having another 800,000bht tied up in her seperate account is to get a letter from the Embassy in Bangkok showing that we are legally married, by presenting our marriage certificate to them. My wife is English and by doing this l am told that she would Follow me as an attached member and therefore not require to show any bank funds. Only my account/bank paperwork is required and would cover us both, therefore having taken the Embassy Pension Letter into account 150,000bht would cover us both at the time of visa renewals. l also understand that a new letter is required for both Pension and Marriage Letters each year.

Yes this correct, am l completely wrong and the information l have received incorrect or can any one please advise on this further. Many thanks as always......

No financial proof is needed for your wife to get a dependent extension based upon yours.

The income letter has to be new every year. Info for getting it by mail is here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/how-to-obtain-a-pensionincome-letter-for-thai-immigration

What you would do at the UK embassy is a self certification of your marriage certificate by stating it is true and correct by way of an affidavit or what ever they call them at the UK embassy. You should only need this once and show it every year.

Ubonjoe, my Australian neighbour asked me a question re an extension based upon marriage to a Thai. I told him next time I see you on Thaivisa I would ask you the question which is 'can you get an extension based upon being married to a Thai lady using a combination of income [pension] and money in the bank'. Thanks for any reply.

Ubonjoe, many thanks for your advice. In respect of the marriage certificate, when in England l had to produce a certified copy of my marriage certificate to the Thai Embassy. This was made by a Notery and with a seal. Can l still use this as my proof and show it every year. Thanks...............

Immigration will want to see the original of your marriage certificate plus a signed copy.

The will also want the self certification instead of having to get it certified by an authority in the UK. Basically they want something with an embassy stamp.
