Arsenal overstate Emirates attendances 'by up to 5,000 fans per game' - police figures reveal

BY LIAM PRENDERVILLE

LONDON: -- Data released has shown the Gunners exaggerated by almost 22,000 over the course of last season as they counted tickets sold NOT fans through turnstiles

Arsenal inflated their Emirates attendance by up to 5,000 fans per game last season, police figures have revealed.

The Gunners, whose capacity stands at 60,432, claim sell-out crowds for almost every game, domestically and in Europe.

However, data released by the Metropolitan Police show numbers were significantly overcooked for home Premier League fixtures last term.

Arsenal's attendance numbers are based on tickets sold, rather than the actual number of people coming through the turnstiles.

Why on earth are the Mirror putting this out as news?

Daily Mail 2008.

For example, at Arsenal's Emirates stadium, the attendance figure released to the public reflects the number of tickets sold for each individual game.

My but they're as sharp as a beach ball.

several thousand fewer people in the stadium to disturb the carefully-balanced silence?

Unless you're in the Diamond Club it's Budweiser out of plastic glasses and dog rolls as far as I know smokes.

The pies weren't bad when I watched Scotland get beat. ;)

The benefit of them selling more tickets than gets used is ?..... oh never mind.

It goes to show how many corporates buy them as gifts which aren't used.

I went to a Boro-Arsenal cup tie years ago, it was lashing down.

There was an entire semicircle of empty seats right behind the goal.

I asked the stewards if we could sit there and they were more than happy, so we sat right behind it.

So not only do these corporate chappies buy loads of tickets, but they buy the best ones.

And then don't use them.

No skin off our noses, money in the bank innit.

It's been evident for any traveling away fans at the Emirates in recent years,as like Highbury it's just like a library.

I thought all clubs counted tickets sold in their attendances, whether the people showed up or not.

i think they do. it's a total non-story. same thing happens with cinemas, theatres, music gigs, anything with tickets sold in advance. there's always a shortfall in people who actually turn up.

It's not only a non-story, it's an old non-story.
