Why would you want to have a static IP?Tons of reasons.Reach all your equipment at home from outside home. CCTV, webservers, ftp server, remote login etc etc. Static IP's are expensive. The much more cost effective solution for what you want is a Dynamic DNS address, that solves the dynamic IP problem. http://dyn.com/remote-access/ There are also free services similar to DynDNS, so check out a few of those too.
