Marriage Visa w/ Criminal Record from America

Featured Replies

Hi,

I live in Thailand, currently using Tourist Visas. My question is if I were to get married in Thailand, is a criminal background check from my home country required?

I have convictions in my native country for drug possession (marijuana) and a DUI.

If a background check is required, is it risky for me to apply for a marriage Visa, as there is a chance I'd be denied, and perhaps red flagged or blacklisted if I were to continue just using a Tourist Visa?

If there is any risk, I suspect it would be wise to just continue with the Tourist Visa route, which doesn't require a background check?

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks

The only visa that requires a back ground check is a OA long stay visa for retirement. And to get a non-b visa for teaching as some locations.

Don't get married just for the visa.....

Don't get married just for the visa.....

Seems he is, and also to assist him starting a business, as per his other Topic.

Then of course is the further topic about Sinsod, where he states he has no money, so how will be open a business and get an extension to a visa in Thailand based on marriage!!!!

In the past year I have seen a huge increase in the number of posters here who are trying to circumvent the system. They are not legitimate "Tourists", nor do they have appropriate visas that allow them to live and or live and work in Thailand on extensions of stay.

I agree, I am not a legitimate tourist. Unfortunately, the system does not work for people in my situation, thus the need to attempt to circumvent it.

I run an Internet business. I have no need to hire four Thai employees. I would happily pay taxes in Thailand, or pay, say, a maximum of 30,000 baht a year for some sort of visa that applies to me.

Since I cannot do this, as I'm unmarried and am 34 years old, nor can I justify starting a corporation here and hiring Thai people to sit around to do nothing, I'm left with two options -- Find a new country, which wants me to spend money to support their economy, or circumvent the system.

What would you do, if you had non Thai family who live here, many friends here, and a girlfriend?

As long you marriage is genuine, you are not circumventing anything. I suggest that when posting to this forum you stick to simple, relevant facts and do not give material to material haters to attack. They don't have the slightest interest to understand or dialog with anyone that is not themselves exactly.

Then ante up show the funds for a marriage visa and get married.

Sure using up a lot of time and space responding to an obvious troll. This guy is just putting TV readers on.

Cambodia?

or marriage to Thai.

Those seem to be the two easiest, legitimate options.
