Doctors refute link between eggs and heart disease, recommend for protein

YALA, 9 October 2015 (NNT) – Health experts have disproved the belief that eggs are a cause of heart disease, affirming that they are in fact a source of quality protein.

Doctors refuted claims that eggs could raise cholesterol levels, explaining that frequent consumption of trans fat, sweets and low-quality carbohydrates, as well as a lack of exercise, are actually to blame for a surge in cholesterol.

A study by Egg Nutrition Center in Washington showed that 100,000 adults who eat at least one egg per day did not develop a higher risk of heart disease than those eating no more than one egg per week. Doctors say eggs are relatively inexpensive for their nutritional value. A large raw egg contains 7g in protein and 80kcal.

The Department of Health suggests that children older than six months and people in general should eat at least one egg per day. Those struggling with hypertension or high fat levels may eat up to three eggs per week. They should also exercise regularly and have yearly medical checkups.

The International Egg Commission has declared the second Friday of October every year as World Egg Day to raise awareness on the benefits of eggs.

An egg a day keeps the quacks away ! lol

I would like to see a study done by an independant lab.. Not by an organization that are paid by egg producers/distributors.

Wow! How brilliant except for those of us who have known this for 40 years. Next they will be saying butter is better than margarine!

Yes, it is.

I think I read this 15+ years ago... is it new news? News to me. I kick out the yoke every other egg when going scrambled... just because.

So 20 to 30 years of studies in the west , telling that eggs are bad for cholesterol , now the Thai say : no problem ?

Promotion paid by CP ? Ok , months ago with overproduction and low prices , but that's finished . Prices are back higher.

The problem with all research is that the one who pays gets the result they want!

You can set up 2 different tests, one payed by pro and one payed by against something and you will get 2 different results and then you will need make an independent government payed research that will get the result "inconclusive"!

And you can also see that the results from research changes over time as research methods get better and better.

But I do know that if I personally eat more than 1 egg a day my kidneys are "not happy" with me...

If you read the article then you can see that it's an American study...

A few chicken bum nuts boiled, and eaten with beans is a perfect recipe to clear away the pool table if it is crowded. Smells fowl. lol

The yolk is the best bit.

Good news for Thais. Until I came to live here I never realised that any food you can possibly think of is improved with a fried egg on top. As a thick farang, I just have mine with bacon, sausage and beans.

Do fake eggs have any noticeable effect on cholesterol levels?

Do fake eggs have any noticeable effect on cholesterol levels?

No but the plastic constipates you and when you fart balloons come out your bottom

Cholesteral has been taken off the heart disease list.

I am a firm believer in the old saying [ go to work on an egg] an eggcellent source of protein I have 2 or 3 a week really eggciting stuff .

The idea that eggs were bad for you and that margarine was good, for example, has been disproved and the "food pyramid" has been altered somewhat from what was advocated a few years back.

This is no yoke and I won't egg you on or crack any others with half-boiled explanations or ideas poached from other studies, all white, but you could shell out a few baht to get the food pyramid to see whereabouts eggs lay on it.

'A study by Egg Nutrition Center ...' Somewhat slanted, then. Whites don't contain as much protein as the yolk, but then they don't contain the cholesterol, either. Whites on their own, or with one yolk, work well enough.

I'm always interested in who provided the grant money for the research.
