If these monks are doing drugs and having affairs with women they are the ones who are disrespect full of Buddha! They sin because they are weak and can not do what Buddha wanted them to do!

This is simply Sahamongkol Films doing ANOTHER publicity stunt.

I will bet it was their people who wrote to the Ministry to complain....or even a planned action between Sahamongkol and a ministry official.

The decision will soon be reversed.

Good on 'em.

Legally, Sahamongkol Films committed a crime.

The 1962 Sangha Act specifically prohibits the defamation or insult of Buddhism and the Buddhist clergy. Violators of the law could face up to 1 year imprisonment or fines of up to Bt18,000. Likely if the government is pressed, it will prosecute and fine the company some nominal amount if the company apologizes.

Don't be daft. Of course Buddhism is a religion.

"Is it a religion?

It is neither a religion in the sense in which that word is commonly understood, for it is not "a system of faith and worship owing any allegiance to a supernatural being."

Buddhism does not demand blind faith from its adherents. Here mere belief is dethroned and is substituted by confidence based on knowledge, which, in Pali, is known as saddha. The confidence placed by a follower on the Buddha is like that of a sick person in a noted physician, or a student in his teacher. A Buddhist seeks refuge in the Buddha because it was he who discovered the path of deliverance..."

as clearly explained in God Is Not Great, there is no "Eastern Solution"...

I am a Christian and my God is great. Buddha was a prophet and not a God. My God is great and he rules with peace and love from heaven above! The only King that died so his people could live!!!

To which entity are Thai Buddhists seeking good luck from when they visit Temple and pray?

If it is one of these typical Thai- horror- flics, you can be sure to see a lot of decayed corpses, blood and gore...but that is -of course- totally okay, as long as it doesn't show Thailand's oh-so-great- monks in a bad light!

F@#$&^* morons!

Arbat, has agreed to make changes to the movie

and his favorite song is: "Stand by your man"

Oh sorry I may have not been clear enough....If Buddha himself was alive today he would most categorically say that he never intended his teachings to become "Buddhism", guess that goes for Jesus and the whole lot of other enlightened people in the past....

Agree! Same as those Police magazines, available to any school kid in full color at any 7Eleven - uncensored gore in full color and closeup, while any female nipple in any magazine all over Thailand receives a black round or star formed sticker... Photos shown in those police mags are hidden in the cellars of western police crime units, banned from the public eye, because the images are too disturbing. But here in Thailand they find the creations of mother nature shown naked need to be censored while a photo of a deceased person with a shotgun blast to the head, leaving merely the lower jaw in place, is perfectly presentable, in closeup and in A4 size! It's sick, isn't it?

Walks like a duck, talks like a duck. Samesame but different. Rose by any other name ... And so on. For all practical purposes, it's just another version of opium for masses.

so the real life of monks you cannot show in a film?

Months ago there was a story of that famous monk with his properties around the world and a private plane and also some (or one) children... So what...?

The film's ban now has drawn an article in Variety:

https://variety.com/2015/digital/news/thailand-bans-arbat-movie-on-religious-grounds-1201616394/

The Variety article also has a different photo released by the studio showing the guy who I assume is the main character along with a quite young (and cute) looking girl, whom I assume is his interest in the film.

quite a few, very appropriate replies to this censorship.

The current self-appointed government is not only draconian for civil society, they are extraordinarily conservative morally. In that light, their censorship - a tool they use heavily in the social and political arena - is perfectly adapted to be applied in the moral arena, too.

well that is what many monks do, even thai people except this, its a face and religion thing, condem all other faiths except your own, they should try banning the monks having a blow job on you tube as well

Happens everywhere.
