The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A 40-year-old man jumped to his death from the 12-storey Mueang Pathum Thani municipality building Thursday.

The man was identified as Rungroj Sathienpreecha, a resident of Mueang Pathum Thani district.

A municipality official, Saengduan Jakhongsa told police that she spotted something falling from above while she was having lunch with friends on the ninth floor.

When she looked down, she saw the body on the ground.

A life insurance policy and a note of underground lottery bidding were found on his body.

Strange thing about Thai life insurance policies, they do not exclude suicide committed after the policy has been in place for at least a year. My best wishes to his family. I'm sure his value was much greater than any life insurance policy could provide to you.

Inappropriate for the police to have released that information about the lottery note, unless the police can specifically conclude that he had financial troubles related to losses on an illegal lottery.

He should have read the fine print in his Life Insurance policy before he committed suicide... whistling.gif

Making fun of a tragic event for the pathetic need for "likes" is inhuman.

Sensible suggestion if the money is owed to a bank, even a Thai bank....but more likely it's grey/black money and the penalties for default are alarming and unrelenting

Some life insurance policies in some western countries will insure for suicide after the policy has been held for at least 13 months, I presume to allow the first anniversary of a significant event passing.

How sad is this, never lived in a Country where there is so so many Suicides...

Poor Guy.. far too young to end it..

According to "Suicide rates per 100,000 by country, year and sex (Table)". World Health Organization. 2011. Retrieved 2012-01-26.... the latest figure I could find on short notice... .

... Thailand is number 66 on the list of top suicide countries...a bad number... yes.... but many other countries are much worse.

My country of Canada number 40 on the list, has a much higher rate.

And Japan is number 9...(Japan even has a "Suicide Forest" where lots of people go to end it all. Aokigahara Forest.. also called the "Sea of Trees" and believed to be inhabited by demons. They even have signs at the entrances to the forest with phone numbers for counselling help. Many bodies found in there every year.... from hanging, gun shot, overdose and cutting and bleeding out.

According to another list of the top 25 suicide countries for 2015... the so-called "Democratic Republic" of Kim Jong-un's North Korea has the second highest suicide rate in the world., coming just after Guyana. Thailand doesn't even make it on that list.
