KRABI: -- A school of over 10 black-tip reef sharks has been spotted in a small bay near Koh Hong in the Tharnboke Koranee marine park in Krabi province.

Mr Champen Pompakdee, chief of the park, told reporters in Krabi province that the sharks which are between 1-2 metres long have been spotted swimming in the bay for the past several days.

He said that the sea water is so clear that the sharks, believed to be black-tip reef sharks are clearly visible. The sharks are believed to have taken refuge in the reefs at night and venture out for food during the daytime.

Black-tip reef sharks are not a protected species and their numbers have dwindled sharply due to overfishing or caught up in fishing nets.

That was my thoughts exactly, the poor bastards are doomed now.

Beautiful animals, swam with them many times, only a potential thread in turbid waters.

Oh no ! We kept it as a secret for their protection. Once reported in public, they have not much chances to survive. What a shame !

it doesn't surprise me that the numbers are dwindling the rape of the oceans has been most alarming over the last 20 years I think the human species has a lot to answer for they have raped the planet of its mineral wealth and is still doing so and killing all the fish in the seas is just a continuation .

Thanks to this article they most likely will be caught and sold on one of the nearby markets by some local who just needed some quick cash :(
