October 21, 201510 yr Flying steel pipe pierces Toyota like a pig on a spit (PHOTOS)By Coconuts BangkokBANGKOK: -- A steel square pipe flew off a pickup truck and careened through the rear windshield of a Toyota all the way to its dashboard console on a highway in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian on Saturday.Photos of the crazy incident spread and traumatized the motorists on Twitter this week. The pipe flew between the two car seats, so the driver Watthiraporn Phrompongsri escaped uninjured, thank heavens. In a report yesterday, Watthiraporn spoke of the near-death incident. She initially thought her car was rear-ended when she heard the bang, then she saw the steel pipe slide right next to her body.Full story: http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2015/10/21/flying-steel-pipe-pierces-toyota-pig-spit-photos-- Coconuts Bangkok 2015-10-21

October 21, 201510 yr crickey !! very lucky he wasn't killed. Fine the driver 100 baht for not securing his load. She initially thought thanks, when I checked Watthiraporn i thought it was a mans name ...
October 21, 201510 yr The way they (don't) secure their loads here, I'm surprised the highways aren't littered with impaled corpses.
October 21, 201510 yr Maybe not the truck drivers fault the vehicle behind may not have seen the faded pink plastic bag on the 2mtr overhang and punched it forward
October 21, 201510 yr when will they learn, this is not a safe way to carry such a load, brake hard and this is the result - scary
October 21, 201510 yr Maybe not the truck drivers fault the vehicle behind may not have seen the faded pink plastic bag on the 2mtr overhang and punched it forward The pipe entered the rear window ...
October 21, 201510 yr The female driver was unavailable for further comment as she had to hurry home to change her underwear.
October 21, 201510 yr TV a bit slow here, been on FB for sometime now. A Thai traffic cop friend sent me some pics, worrying.
October 21, 201510 yr when will they learn, this is not a safe way to carry such a load, brake hard and this is the result - scary Regarding When will they learn? Answer: Never.
October 21, 201510 yr The way they (don't) secure their loads here, I'm surprised the highways aren't littered with impaled corpses. Almost daily i see lost loads laying on the roads. Last week a huge truck loaded with those white gypsum blocks which all fell off in a corner. Yesterday a big truck which was loaded too high and touched the roadsigns here in BKK. Also we have some very low U-turns under bridges at Kanchana phisek, many times i've seen pickups like on this pic stuck there under the bridge when their load touched the bridge and fell off. Causing huge trafficjams and then they all have to drive back in reverse onto the highway. But fortunately not many times that i saw corpses on the road.
October 21, 201510 yr She better hurry out and buy a lottery ticket,it was her very lucky day, did the driver do a runner. regards worgeordie

October 21, 201510 yr A 2 mtr aluminium step ladder in the middle of the motor way the other month, scary.
October 21, 201510 yr crickey !! very lucky she wasn't killed. Fine the driver 100 baht for not securing his load. your being very silly. Everyone know driving fine in BBK and Pattaya is 400 baht. Fine in villages is 200 baht. AND in this case he can drive with insecured load all day because he only pay fine once.
October 21, 201510 yr crickey !! very lucky she wasn't killed. Fine the driver 100 baht for not securing his load. no fine...if he wai's and says sorry. I would probably go to jail for negligence and attempted man slaugher.
October 21, 201510 yr Maybe not the truck drivers fault the vehicle behind may not have seen the faded pink plastic bag on the 2mtr overhang and punched it forward Do you think it possible that the steel load of tubes was lashed down in such a way that one of the pipes was free to move forward under heavy braking. The load may have seemed secure when the truck left the yard, but may have worked loose enough to cause this near fatality. A lot depends on the skill of the person securing the load. These pipes were on the steel roof of a covered truck. Just a thought.
October 21, 201510 yr did she get to keep the pipe? might be the only thing she gets out of all this.
October 21, 201510 yr Did the safety strap on the back go to sleep? No the one unstrapped in the front seat fell asleep.
October 21, 201510 yr From the main article: The insurance company of the pickup truck paid for the damage while the driver of the truck said he bought steel pipes from a shop and blamed them for not tightening the pipes securely enough. The driver was let off with a fine for reckless driving. "Not my fault." "Sure I will buy two tickets to the RTP benevolent fund." "Where I will offer to be the keynote speaker on how to secure your load blame others for my incompetence." "After all, yesterday I was flipping burgers at McDonalds. And today I am a certified truck driver"
October 21, 201510 yr an apt phrase but a very dangerous incident which should not have happened the truck driver was negligent in not making sure the load was secured it wasn't the shops responsibility it was his .
October 21, 201510 yr That is not a steel "pipe".It is structural steel, not intended to transport liquid or gas. That said, my wife and I saw this on the television news yesterday. We discussed the various ways this could have had a very different (worse) outcome...someone in that seat, the load-carrying truck being one meter to the right, or the Toyota being a meter left, etc etc.It would definitely be a <deleted> moment.

To be pedantic it's actually called Box Section.
