Isuzu V-Cross long distance trip

Featured Replies

Apparently today (Friday) is a holiday. Rather than the normal 8 and a half hour trip, it took over 13 hours. I learned a couple things about the Isuzu. With the pathetic stop and go driving, The engine noise was so low that I had to rely on the tachometer to know what gear I was in. I think I liked my old Nissan because I could always tell from the engine noise what gear I was in. Quite often at highway speed I found that I was in 4th gear rather than 5th gear. I also found out that when the traffic thinned out, The built in computer indicated that speeds around 120 KPH killed the efficiency. Rather than the normal 15 and 16 KPL, it dropped to 12 to 14 KPL. I have not filled the tank yet so I don't know what the actual KPL will be. With the bigger 76 liter fuel tank, I easily get well over 1,000 kilometers per tank, All in all, the ride is very good for a truck and it is amazingly tight and quiet at all speeds. I'm quite satisfied with the truck.

wait till you've had the Isuzu for a couple of years....then you'll get your engiune noise back...and with a bonus....

Glad to hear your positive experience.

I have a Thai friend who has had much the same to say regarding the brand.

Gary, Yes, having now had 3+ years experience with my V-Cross I basically concur. I will add that when I changed to Mobil 1 5W-40 oil (fully synthetic), see pic, that completely stopped the couple of seconds 'extra' diesel rattle on startup after overnight or longer stop. B Quick sell it. Isuzu now sell their own 'branded' 5W-40 fully synthetic oil... I'm told produced by Claridon.

Maybe its a little strange, but I actually like the rattle of a diesel. The Isuzu ads said that a huge improvement was made to quiet the diesel noise. That was NOT an incentive for me. I do appreciate the powerful 3.0 liter engine in the mountains for passing heavy trucks but I'm sure the 2.5 would have plenty of power for most driving.

The major disappointment is still the GPS. For those familiar with Jomtien, the Jomtien second road is not even on the crap map. Taking the tollway home, it kept wanting me to exit the expressway even though it was set for the fastest route. MANY roads are missing. I just follow the trusty Garmin.

Your trip....Thats why I have had auto trans for the last 40 years....thumbsup.gif

Assuming your ride takes 7 litres of Mobil 1, how much did B-Quik charge for the oil and filter change...?

All those hours stuck in traffic made me wish that I had ordered an automatic. Maybe next time, if I have a next time. I bought my Nissan pickup new in 2004. It's likely that in ten more years that my driving days will be over with.

If you are asking me I bought the oil and gave it to Isuzu to change. I can't remember the price...I'll find out for you.
