Loan shark gang members arrested for violent debt collection

PATHUM THANI:-- Two illegal loan sharks were arrested and more were being hunted after they fired several gun shots at a house whose owner failed to repay the debt.

The two loan shark gang members were shown to the public at a press conference Saturday at Pathum Thani police headquarters.

They were identified as Wisanu Umpaibul, 25, and Sompong Pulsook, 30.

Both were seized upon reentering the country from Cambodia at Aranyaprathet immigration checkpoint yesterday.

The loan shark gang members were found to attack Mrs Kamrai Buakaeo’s house in Thanyaburi district of Pathum Thani province on Monday night with gunfire.

They confessed to the gun attack saying they were enraged after they failed to collect debts from her after coming several times, and were also challenged by her son.

Police said they have imposed charges of violent debt collection, attempted murder, illegal possession of guns, and carrying them in public places with no carrying licences.

There are still more conspirators and the police are following behind them.

I was at a convenient store where the news broke out on tv, the Thai (female)owner started to rant about how lazy Thai people were, and how easy they could get money to borrow...she had to earn her money and could not spend more then she earned....fair enough.......but what struck me was that she didn't seem at all bothered by the gangs display of violence......not a word.

Pathumtani, Cambodia - reads like a red operation. This investigation will go nowhere. RTP has already received the envelopes to end it. Amazing how the exiled one's influence persists.

You just can't help yourself, can you? You absolutely HAVE to throw something "Red" into it, or somehow link it to Thaksin, where there is not even a microscopic shred of evidence of either one. It's a shame you can't be mature enough to read a story for what it is, instead of trying to find ways to twist it to suite your personal agenda.

My late wife had a gambling problem although I didn't know how bad it was at first until she showed me the paper with a couple hundred thousand baht she had borrowed from various loan sharks in surin....I went around and payed them all off and told them not to give her anymore so anyway she borrowed more off of different ones and then passed away from a heart attack so they come around and I told them what happened and that I would not pay as I was again unaware of it so they went straight next door to the people who guaranteed for her because now they had to pay and then they come to me begging if I could pay for them and I said no and this is what you get for doing it in the first place where they knew it was all behind my back, that was nearly 6 years ago and I've heard nothing else of it.

Arrests in debt-collection shooting in Thanyaburi

PHATUM THANI:-- Police have paraded two alleged members of a debt-collection gang accused of shooting at the house of a woman debtor in Pathum Thani's Thanyaburi district last Sunday.

Wissanu Ampaiboon, 25, and Sompong Poonsuk, 30, reportedly confessed to having joined 11 other debt collectors in firing at the house allegedly on the order of reputed Nonthaburi-based loan shark Wuthichai Pho-art. They were brought to the 56-year-old victim's house to re-enact the crime yesterday.

The men have been charged with attempted murder, gun possession, carrying a gun in public without permission and causing damage to another person's property.

They claimed the victim failed to repay her debt despite receiving many previous warnings. They also said the woman's son argued with them.

Deputy police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen said the duo fled to Cambodia and were arrested in Sa Kaew upon returning to Thailand.

And tons lost a lot in the market crash of 2008......and made finances harder. lazy??? not likely. so you can have money problems and NOT be lazy......

Why oh why does every thread turn to bashing the Thais??

Loan sharks are in EVERY country, in this one they are just another part of the corruption circle.

Thai people are low paid and find it hard to make ends meet... borrowing seems to them to be the only option.

Unfortunately, they usually have no collateral and resort to loan sharks fore the 'must have ' things seen on their new smart phones.

The blame here is with the nasty, insidious, grasping loan sharks whose repayments cripple people financially.

Try not to blame the Thai people en masse, it shows your ignorance, not theirs.

Walk a mile in their shoes before judging.

Put thes two lowlifes in an 8x6 for 10 years. Scum.

Even though I have and never will have any business with Thai loan sharks, I feel a deep disgust / repugnance whenever I see those Muak Gan Nok guys (mostly on 250cc bikes, mostly 2, both wearing helmets/masks, often gloves, long sleeve shirts, the pillion rider carrying a money shoulder bag) to an extend that I want to run them off the street. I hope all those devil's henchmen will have a life full of despair and misfortune as karmic repayment for working as debt collectors. As for the loan sharks themselves, charging 10% interest and more PER MONTH! I wish them nothing but gastric cancer, leprosy and brain tumors...

I would think with the money you saved you could afford some punctuation. tongue.png

Low pay and not been able to manage so they borrow from loan sharks and their problems are compounded, Proper education in schools would help especially in maths. I am not just talking about Thailand, I have seen payday loans advertised in the UK where the interest has been 2000%.. If the loan sharks victims were able to work out what they had to actually pay back maybe they would not borrow in the first place.I have heard if Thai's borrow from Farang relatives it is considered to wrong for the Farang to ask for his money back, but obviously the loan sharks are different.

10% per month is less than some western instant SMS loans that can be up to 20% per month. Every country has debt collectors, some in the form of governmental credit bureaus. if you don't want to meet them either pay back your loan or don't loan money. I hate people who take loans and don't expect to pay them back. That's why there's debt collectors.
