Prawit denies Bt5 million tambon fund project siphoned
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan Monday dismissed United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship chairman Jatuporn Prompan's claim that there is widespread corruption in the Bt5 million tambon fund project.

He said he had officials explain the implementation of the project in detail and Jatuporn must substantiate his allegation with evidence.

"It is not good to make ungrounded allegations. Please show me who has got the money. I will bring all culprits to judgement. I really want to have them busted,'' he said.

He said the National Council for Peace and Order had military personnel check the project's progress and transparency.

Corruption is everywhere, it will never be eradicated when its a way of life.

Correct. It has nothing to do with political colour just basic human greed and the lack of law enforcement.

People anywhere will do what they think they can get away with and with no deterrent it becomes the norm.

Jatuporn doesn't need any evidence : the people he is aiming these comments at don't care one jot about truth or justice : they want to believe it so they will.

The rest of us laugh at the ridiculous farce that a man like this gets support as a public figure.

This boy is reported to be unbelievable in what he says by home village, family, prison aurhorties mental disabiled caretakers, etc. Doubt he has friends to talk to in an intelligent manner and seiously doubt you could get enough people who would even take time to pee on him, if he was on fire to put the fire out.

Interesting to see the evidence he has. If he hasn't and is just shooting his mouth off then he needs to be careful. He doesn't want to be sued for defamation on top of all those other court cases still going through.

Someone might rescind his bail!

As of 2009 there were 7,255 tambon,[1] not including the 169 khwaeng of Bangkok, which are set at the same administrative level, thus every district contains eight to ten tambon.

That times THB 5M makes for a tidy sum to siphon off a couple percent or more...

This is an incredibly rare instance where I agree with Prawit.

The UDD is going to shoot themselves in the foot if they make accusations like this with no evidence.

Probably Jatuporn meant that the local administrations handle the village funds as good as they did in the past when it was a perfect example of Thaksin's good ideas for the people.

5mn? That doesn't leave much scope for corruption

It does when there's hundreds of Tambons

In a northern tambon where I lived 5 years ago, my Thai ex-g/f was a committee member in the administration of the gov't fund. I was told that at least 2 of the then current committee members had previous 'form' for corruption, but somehow had retained their membership. Apparently, their punishment for misuse of the fund was that they had to return the money they had 'borrowed'. Whilst I'm not a card carrying Red or Yellow, IMHO Jutaporn is probably correct in his accusations.

Your logic is twisted and invalid. A troll makes comments that have no foundation in fact or phenomena. If the allegation is correct, he is not a troll.

Put away the pom-poms, please.

You denied your antecedent.

PS: The money wasn't siphoned! Those were administrative fees. Perfectly legal.

Prayut wants proof for an investigation but he relies on a secret list of names of people accused of corruption by unnamed parties with no evidence for his own investigative purposes. He has repeatedly reassigned accused persons to inactive stations or positions with no evidence nor even mention of what the accusations are. But the public must abide by a higher level of evidence.

Since the tambon fund project was created and administered by the NCPO Chief Prayut government, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect that the Prayut government would have a conflict of interest, if not disinterest, in investigating any claims of corruption.

But the NCPO/Prayut government can make a referral to the NAAC to investigate Prawit's claims. The NAAC has also investigated complaints of corruption directly from both the PTP and Democrat leadership. If the Prayut regime has nothing to hide, it should welcome the opportunity to present facts showing there can be no corruption.

In defence of the junta government, there is no way that corruption on that tambon level can be eradicated. It has been going on for years. No difference from the corruption of the rice scheme/s at the ground level.
